Chapter 45

Rhapsody

“Fuck Chord and his magical cock!”  I shouted as another pain shot through my abdomen.

“Uhm…Rhapsody you may want to keep it down a bit.”  Cassie said as she sat in the chair next to the shitty makeshift hospital bed.

“Fuck you.  Give me your hand again.”  I demanded.

Her face paled.  “Nope.”  She turned to Alec who was looking at his phone.  “Alec, you’re up.”

“What?”

Cassie grinned at him.  “Rhapsody needs your hand.”

He sighed.  “Fine.”  His hand shot out as he continued to look at his phone.

Little monster did another pass down my spine.  I squeezed with all my might.  “Ahhh!”

“Owwwww!”  Alec squealed and fell to the floor.

Cassie giggled.  “Oh Alec, man up.  Stop being a baby.”

“Fuck you.”  He attempted to pull his hand away but I held tight until the pain subsided.

“Whew.  Thanks, Alec.”  I laid against the reclined bed.

“I think you broke my hand.”  Alec held his hand against his chest.

I just shrugged then looked around the curtained area.  When we arrived at the hospital we were escorted to a bed surrounded by curtains.  The nurse said a doctor would be with us shortly.  That was almost two hours ago.  Chord hadn’t shown up either.  I was only half joking when I threatened him about not showing up.  I didn’t really think he wouldn’t show.

“Where is the fucking doctor?”  I asked.

“I’m not sure.  I’ll go ask again.”  Cassie stood to leave the area and ran into someone coming into our designated curtained room.

“Oh I’m sorry.”  Cassie stuttered.

When I got my first look at the man I understood why she was stuttering.  He was gorgeous.  I mean if you liked the built like a bouncer with hypnotizing green eyes and perfectly just had sex black hair.  I loved Chord but that man made my lady bits wet.  Well…I think it was because of him and not just because my water had burst.

“How are you doing in here?”  Dr. Wet Dream asked.

“I’m great.”  Cassie said.

“I think he was talking to Rhapsody.”  Alec said flatly

“Oh.  Sorry.”  Cassie blushed.

I gaped at my cousin.  In all the years I’ve known her she never blushed because of a guy.  It was something to see.

Dr. Wet Dream smiled bright, white teeth at Cassie.  “I’m glad you’re doing well.  I hope if that changes you’d tell me.

Cassie giggled and nodded.  What the hell was happening?

The doctor lasered his smile on me.  I smiled back then said, “I’m not ok.  I’ve been waiting for two hours with this little monster doing the samba on my spine.  So, I’m a bit cranky and ready for this to be over with.”

Dr. Wet Dream had the nerve to laugh.  My hand itched with the need to throat punch him.  If little monster decided to give me pain in that moment he was going to be my first target.

“Let’s see how far along we are.”  He took a seat on a rolling stool and positioned himself between my thighs.

I laid back against the reclined bed.  The snap of the latex gloves made me jump.

“This may be a little cold.”  The doctor said.

“I’ll be back.”  Alec escaped.

Good.  I didn’t need him seeing any more of my vagina than necessary. Which would be none.

“Go ahead.  I’ll stay and help the doctor if necessary.”  Cassie offered.

I sat up and watched Alec give her an annoyed look then shook his head and continued to exit.

“What the hell do you think your ass is going to do?  Sit down over there.”  I pointed to the chair away from the doctor.

Cassie gave me a shut up look then reluctantly moved to the chair.

“Can you get down to business doc?  I want my drugs ASAP.”  I kicked my legs into the stirrups.

Dr. Wet Dream laughed again then winked at Cassie.  She blushed fiercely.  What the hell was going on?

I no longer cared once his fingers were probing me.  Closing my eyes, I forced myself to breathe deeply.  Most pregnant women get used to probing fingers in their vagina.  Unfortunately, I was not one of them.

“Hmm…” He said.

“What?”

“Well, it looks like you’re only a few centimeters dilated.  We will have to wait until you’re about five centimeters.”  He ripped the gloves off.  “I will see if we can get you into a room.  Looks like you’ve got a long road ahead of you, Ms. Belle.”

“Mother fucker!”  I yelled.

He blanched.  Good no more of that bright white smile.  He turned to leave but was met with a group of people.

“We knew it was you from the mother fucker.”  Miranda said.

Grams pushed past everyone and sat on the side of the bed.  Pulling my hand into her lap she gave it a squeeze.  “How is my girl doing?”

“Little monster is putting up a hell of a fight.”  I looked around at the audience that gathered.  Still no Chord.  “So, what is everyone doing here?”

“Alec and Cassie texted everyone.”  My mother stepped next to Grams and smiled at me.

I glanced over at Cassie who made a concerted effort to stare at her phone.   She stood quickly and left without a word.

“Well, that was weird.”  Miranda said.

“I think we can all agree with that.  So, when will you get a real room?  Do we need to pull some strings?”  My mother, Emmerson Lee, stood straighter ready to flex her celebrity muscle.

“The doctor said I should get a room soon.”

“How about right now?”  A nurse threw open the curtain and wheeled in a wheelchair.

“That would be fantastic.”  I slid off the bed and winced when I felt another pain shoot through my abdomen.

“Take your time.”  She said.

I waddled over to the wheelchair then sat as gently as an elephant on a cruise ship.

The nurse looked around the group.  She pursed her lips then said, “All of you will have to wait here until we have Ms. Belle settled.  We will let you know when you can visit.”

A cacophony of voices made protests.  Without addressing them, the nurse turned the wheelchair around and left everyone.  I bit my lip to keep the laugh that threatened to burst through inside. We quietly moved through the emergency room area to a bank of elevators.  The doors open letting off a doctor.  We rolled into the quiet space.

“Your family could have come.”  She said. I looked up at her and she smiled down at me.  “I thought you’d need a little break.  Just say when and I will bring them to you.”

I smiled.  “Thanks but the one I’m waiting for hasn’t arrived yet.”

She furrowed her brow.  “The baby’s father hasn’t arrived yet?”

“No.  It’s been like two hours since I texted him a snarky reply.  I’m starting to get concerned the idiot took me seriously.”

“I’ll keep a look out for him and send him your way as soon as he steps foot in the hospital.”

The elevator dinged letting us off at the designated floor.  She wheeled me to a designated room.  Helping me into the bed she gave me a sad smile.

“Are you going to be ok?”

“Yeah.  You can send the crazies up.”

Her eyebrows lifted in question.  “Are you sure?”

“Yeah.  I’d rather have their crazy drown out the thoughts that my little monster’s daddy decided he didn’t want us anymore.”  I forced my lips into a smile.

The nurse looked like she wanted to give me a hug.  The look on my face must have told her that was a bad idea.  Instead she nodded then left the room.

“You know he probably got lost or something.  He is an idiot.”  Queen B piped up after being quiet for so long.

“Now you’re deciding to speak up?”  I mumbled.

Queen B just shrugged then began doing her nails.
