{"id":7652,"date":"2021-04-19T01:59:23","date_gmt":"2021-04-19T01:59:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/jackiepaxsonauthor.com\/?page_id=7652"},"modified":"2021-04-26T00:26:25","modified_gmt":"2021-04-26T00:26:25","slug":"5-2","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/jackiepaxsonauthor.com\/index.php\/my-books\/a-drama-geek-finds-love\/5-2\/","title":{"rendered":"5"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Eason<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Well, I did get to see the beauty that I\u2019d accidently caused her to spill her coffee all over herself.&nbsp;&nbsp;Unfortunately, I was pretty sure she hated my guts.&nbsp;&nbsp;The drink she\u2019d poured over me was a mixture of beer, tobacco spit and cigarette butts.&nbsp;&nbsp;I didn\u2019t even have a moment to blink before she had melted into the crowd.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThat was awesome.\u201d&nbsp;&nbsp;Wilder crowed as I joined him at the bar.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cYou saw the whole thing?\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cYep.&nbsp;&nbsp;We did.\u201d&nbsp;&nbsp;Kai added.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAt first I thought you two were going to give everyone a show and fuck on that nearby table.&nbsp;&nbsp;But, when she dumped that horrible drink on your head it was fantastic.\u201d&nbsp;&nbsp;Wilder laughed.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m leaving.\u201d&nbsp;&nbsp;I grabbed my jacket to leave.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m ready too.\u201d&nbsp;&nbsp;Kai said.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m not.&nbsp;&nbsp;I\u2019ve got my eye on a sexy little thing that keeps teasing me.&nbsp;&nbsp;Maybe I\u2019ll be the one to fuck on that table.\u201d&nbsp;Wilder pushed off the bar and strode onto the dancefloor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cCome on, Kai.&nbsp;&nbsp;Let\u2019s get an Uber.\u201d&nbsp;&nbsp;I pulled up my app and ordered the ride.&nbsp;&nbsp;\u201cIt will be here in a couple minutes.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Kai just nodded as he kept his focus on the phone in his hand.&nbsp;&nbsp;A night of drinking with my brothers was supposed to help me forget about my troubles from the day.&nbsp;&nbsp;I was back to where I started.&nbsp;&nbsp;Thinking about the girl I\u2019d met and wondering if I\u2019d ever see her again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>***<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201c\u2026he looked like a drowned rat.&nbsp;&nbsp;Actually, a drowned rat probably looked better than he did.\u201d&nbsp;&nbsp;Wilder cackled.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cMan, I wish I\u2019d been there.&nbsp;&nbsp;Why didn\u2019t you call me?\u201d&nbsp;&nbsp;Dylan asked.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt was a last-minute thing.&nbsp;&nbsp;I\u2019ll make sure you\u2019re on my list to call when I want to humiliate myself again.\u201d&nbsp;&nbsp;I said to my cousin.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cBoys, do we really think this conversation is appropriate for brunch?\u201d&nbsp;&nbsp;My mother admonished.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cSorry, Mom.\u201d&nbsp;&nbsp;Wilder said sheepishly.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt is quite funny, Willy.\u201d&nbsp;&nbsp;My father smiled at us.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>My mother\u2019s glare could have killed any one of us.&nbsp;&nbsp;This time it was aimed at my father.&nbsp;&nbsp;My father winked at her as he took a bite of toast.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cLet\u2019s change the subject.\u201d&nbsp;&nbsp;Mother shook her head then looked to me.&nbsp;&nbsp;\u201cEason, darling, are you excited?\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Wilder snorted.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cExcited?\u201d&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cTo take the reins so your father and I can go traveling.\u201d&nbsp;&nbsp;She smiled.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOh.&nbsp;&nbsp;Sure. I guess.\u201d&nbsp;&nbsp;I looked down at my plate.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cYou don\u2019t sound so confident, cousin.\u201d&nbsp;&nbsp;Dylan looked at me appraisingly.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I looked up at him.&nbsp;&nbsp;Dylan was the one person I couldn\u2019t hide anything from.&nbsp;&nbsp;We were cousins born only a few weeks apart.&nbsp;&nbsp;We were inseparable when we were younger.&nbsp;&nbsp;We even had the same tutors growing up.&nbsp;&nbsp;However, when he decided to follow his love of history and become a museum curator it caused a rift in the family.&nbsp;&nbsp;His father wanted him to take over as a partner with me, my brothers and my father at Hill Inc.&nbsp;&nbsp;Dylan was brave enough to say hell no but he agreed to stay on the board for major decisions.&nbsp;&nbsp;He had the obligatory office in the building but I think I\u2019d only seen him there a grand total of three times.&nbsp;&nbsp;If he wasn\u2019t mandated to be there he wasn\u2019t going to be.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s fine, Dylan.&nbsp;&nbsp;How are the fossils?\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A light glinted in his eye.&nbsp;&nbsp;It told me we\u2019d have a discussion later.&nbsp;&nbsp;\u201cOh they are great.&nbsp;&nbsp;Love every second with them.&nbsp;&nbsp;They are better than your company, Eason.\u201d&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The table laughed.&nbsp;&nbsp;I glanced over at my mother who had stepped away from the table.&nbsp;&nbsp;Flashing Dylan the middle finger, I grinned.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cEason Christopher!&nbsp;&nbsp;We do not give vulgar gestures during brunch.\u201d&nbsp;&nbsp;His mother yelled from the other room.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cHow the hell\u2026\u201d&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI see everything in this house.\u201d&nbsp;&nbsp;Mother said return to the table.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Wilder shoved his shoulder into mine.&nbsp;&nbsp;\u201cYou got in trouble.\u201d&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cHow old are we, Wild?\u201d&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cDoesn\u2019t matter you still got in trouble.\u201d&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mother let out an exasperated sigh.&nbsp;&nbsp;\u201cWill you boys never grow up?&nbsp;&nbsp;How will a woman ever want to marry such childish boys?&nbsp;&nbsp;If only I\u2019d had girls.\u201d&nbsp;&nbsp;She looked to the ceiling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cDid you used to dress Kai up in dresses?\u201d&nbsp;&nbsp;I asked.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWhat?!\u201d&nbsp;&nbsp;Kai jerked his head up from his phone.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThey weren\u2019t dresses.&nbsp;&nbsp;It was a christening gown.\u201d&nbsp;&nbsp;She shook her head.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Wilder, Dylan and I looked at each other than said as one, \u201cDress.\u201d&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Bursting into laughter, we watched as Kai got embarrassed.&nbsp;&nbsp;The rest of the brunch was thankfully uneventful.&nbsp;&nbsp;I didn\u2019t mind visiting my parents for Sunday brunches but sometimes it was too much family time.&nbsp;&nbsp;As the afternoon approached, Dylan and I chose to leave.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mother gave Dylan a big hug.&nbsp;&nbsp;\u201cTell that sister of mine that we need to have a spa day.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWill do, Aunt Willy.\u201d&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She set her sights on me and pulled me into a hug then kissed my cheek.&nbsp;&nbsp;\u201cYou are going to be great, Eason.&nbsp;&nbsp;I\u2019ve always known you\u2019d do great things.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A knot formed in my stomach.&nbsp;&nbsp;\u201cThanks, Mom.\u201d&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cYou two drive safe.&nbsp;&nbsp;See you next Sunday.\u201d&nbsp;&nbsp;She waved at us as we walked toward our cars.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cShe\u2019s right you know.\u201d&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAbout what?\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cYou were born to take this job on.\u201d&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I shrugged and leaned against my car door. \u201cBeing able to do the job and wanting to do the job are different things.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cDon\u2019t I know it.&nbsp;&nbsp;I\u2019m sure you\u2019ll do fine.\u201d&nbsp;&nbsp;Dylan opened his door then turned back to me.&nbsp;&nbsp;\u201cOh I forgot to tell you, I got you a present.\u201d&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cA present?&nbsp;&nbsp;For what?\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWell, I heard you were losing Edie so I recommended my friend.\u201d&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cDad did say they found a new assistant.\u201d&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cYep.&nbsp;&nbsp;She\u2019s awesome.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;You\u2019re going to love her.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cGood to know.&nbsp;&nbsp;We
