She had a cough.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThat didn\u2019t answer my question, Ian.\u201d&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cShe\u2019s an iguana.\u201d&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>My eyes widened as the lady lizard squinted her eyes at me.&nbsp;&nbsp;\u201cCan\u2019t they kill you?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cUhm\u2026no.&nbsp;&nbsp;She\u2019s harmless.\u201d&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The glare the lizard was laying on me was far from harmless.&nbsp;&nbsp;If I turned my back, she would have those sharp claws in my back.&nbsp;&nbsp;I slowly backed away and turned toward Ian.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cGah!&nbsp;&nbsp;Can you put some clothes on?\u201d&nbsp;&nbsp;I covered my eyes.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWhat?&nbsp;&nbsp;Your scream had me jumping out of bed.&nbsp;&nbsp;You\u2019re lucky I pulled these on.\u201d&nbsp;&nbsp;He point to his boxers.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cToo much information, Ian.&nbsp;&nbsp;So, how long will Ernestine be staying with us?\u201d&nbsp;&nbsp;I moved over to the refrigerator to grab an energy drink since coffee was out of the question today.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cBeth should be stopping by shortly to pick her up.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As Ian finished his sentence there was a knock on the door.&nbsp;&nbsp;I walked over and opened it without looking.&nbsp;&nbsp;No one but Beth showed up at our place before eight a.m.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cGood morning!\u201d&nbsp;&nbsp;She said cheerfully as she dropped a carrier with coffee.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cYou are a godsend.\u201d&nbsp;&nbsp;I grabbed the magical elixir and shoved the energy drink back in the fridge.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI had an idea you\u2019d eep-\u201c&nbsp;&nbsp;Beth squeaked.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWhat\u2019s wrong?\u201d&nbsp;&nbsp;I asked after taking my first sip of the coffee goodness.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cUhm\u2026uh..\u201d&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Looking at her I noticed her eyes were closed and she turned away from the kitchen.&nbsp;&nbsp;Ian was holding Ernestine in one arm while leaning against the counter.&nbsp;&nbsp;He was still half naked.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIan go put some clothes on please.\u201d&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWhat?&nbsp;&nbsp;Why?\u201d He looked down at himself as if he\u2019d forgotten he was only wearing boxers.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cYou\u2019re making Beth uncomfortable.\u201d&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m comforting Ernestine.&nbsp;&nbsp;She was having a coughing fit that everyone was ignoring.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Beth cleared her throat, turned back around but kep her eyes to the ceiling.&nbsp;&nbsp;Holding her arms out she said, \u201cI can take Ernestine.&nbsp;&nbsp;That\u2019s why I\u2019m here after all.\u201d&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cNo other reason?\u201d&nbsp;&nbsp;I mumbled.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She shot me a glare then went back to counting ceiling tiles. Ian handed over the giant lizard then smiled at Beth.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThanks so much, Beth.&nbsp;&nbsp;I don\u2019t know what I\u2019d do without you.\u201d&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Beth dropped her eyes and gave Ian a smile.&nbsp;&nbsp;\u201cThank you.\u201d&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I sipped my coffee as I watched their little moment.&nbsp;&nbsp;For the shortest of moments, I thought I was finally going to witness my brother seeing what has been in front of him.&nbsp;&nbsp;Instead, he smacked Beth on the shoulder as if she were one of his bros.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ll see you in the office in an hour.\u201d&nbsp;&nbsp;Ian disappeared from the kitchen leaving Beth, Ernestine and I wondering what it would take for him to get a clue.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Beth sighed.&nbsp;&nbsp;\u201cWell, I guess I should get going.\u201d&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She bent down and placed the lizard into a carrier I hadn\u2019t seen her bring in.&nbsp;&nbsp;Standing she straightened her spine and got ready to leave.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cHe\u2019s an idiot.&nbsp;&nbsp;You deserve better.\u201d&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s your brother.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cYeah and I know better than anyone that you can do better than that oblivious moron.\u201d&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Beth looked toward the area where Ian had disappeared.&nbsp;&nbsp;\u201cHe\u2019s a wonderful man.\u201d&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Biting my lip, I took a deep breath.&nbsp;&nbsp;It was time for some tough love.&nbsp;&nbsp;\u201cHow long has it been, Beth?\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Without looking at me she said, \u201cSix years, forty weeks, three days and twelve hours but who\u2019s counting.\u201d&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cYeah.&nbsp;&nbsp;Who\u2019s counting?&nbsp;&nbsp;Well, I don\u2019t know if Ian is ever going to get a clue.&nbsp;&nbsp;You\u2019re a wonderful woman who deserves happiness.&nbsp;&nbsp;You should have someone who makes you feel loved and makes you scream between the sheets.\u201d&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cSky!\u201d&nbsp;&nbsp;She exclaimed with a blush.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cHopefully you aren\u2019t yelling that.&nbsp;&nbsp;That\u2019s just weird.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Beth stuck her tongue out at me.&nbsp;&nbsp;\u201cI\u2019ve gotta go.\u201d She turned to leave but stopped before opening the door.&nbsp;&nbsp;\u201cI\u2019m going to tell him.\u201d&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cReally?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve gotta shoot my shot.\u201d&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I nodded.&nbsp;&nbsp;\u201cGood luck.\u201d&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She gave me a sad smile then left.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Letting out a deep breath, I took another sip of coffee and looked at the clock.&nbsp;&nbsp;Panic surged through me.&nbsp;&nbsp;I needed to finish getting ready for my first day.&nbsp;&nbsp;Running out of the kitchen, I gathered everything I need for my first day at Hill Inc.&nbsp;&nbsp;It was going to be a great day.&nbsp;&nbsp;I just knew it.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>***<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis is where all the supplies are kept.&nbsp;&nbsp;Believe me.&nbsp;&nbsp;This is one of the most important places for us.\u201d&nbsp;&nbsp;Edie said as we passed a closed door.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cReally?&nbsp;&nbsp;We go through a lot?\u201d&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She laughed.&nbsp;&nbsp;\u201cNot really but we need to be prepared for anything.&nbsp;&nbsp;Mr. Hill isn\u2019t going to know where any of that is.\u201d&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cEdie!\u201d&nbsp;&nbsp;A man in a black suit approached us.&nbsp;&nbsp;\u201cI thought you were leaving us?&nbsp;&nbsp;Shouldn\u2019t you be retired and hugging those grand kids?\u201d&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m staying through Ms. Albright\u2019s first day.\u201d&nbsp;&nbsp;Edie turned toward me then said,&nbsp;&nbsp;\u201cMs. Albright this is Mr. Hill.\u201d&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I looked up into his handsome face.&nbsp;&nbsp;The twinkle in his eye as he appraised me told me everything I needed to know about him.&nbsp;&nbsp;He was a player.&nbsp;&nbsp;He probably bedded every woman in the building.&nbsp;&nbsp;I straightened my spine and stuck out my hand.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cNice to meet you Mr. Hill.&nbsp;&nbsp;I\u2019m anxious to begin assisting you.\u201d&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mr. Hill raised an eyebrow and took my hand in his.&nbsp;&nbsp;\u201cNice to mee you, Ms. Albright.&nbsp;&nbsp;I look forward to you&nbsp;<em>assisting&nbsp;<\/em>me.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Edie cleared her throat as I pulled my hand away.&nbsp;&nbsp;\u201cWilder.\u201d&nbsp;&nbsp;She said flatly.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cYes, Edie.\u201d&nbsp;&nbsp;Mr. Hill didn\u2019t break eye contact.&nbsp;&nbsp;In fact, a grin curled his lips.&nbsp;&nbsp;It was a grin he\u2019d used on women before.&nbsp;&nbsp;Practiced and perfected just to get women to do what he wanted.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cShe\u2019s Eason\u2019s assistant.&nbsp;&nbsp;Hands off.\u201d&nbsp;&nbsp;She snapped.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m not his assistant?\u201d&nbsp;&nbsp;I asked.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Edie shook her head.&nbsp;&nbsp;\u201cNo.&nbsp;&nbsp;This rogue has his own assistant.\u201d&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cLooks like I\u2019m going to have to visit my brother more often.\u201d&nbsp;&nbsp;Mr. Wilder Hill winked.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cMr. Hill!&nbsp;&nbsp;Mr. Hill!\u201d&nbsp;&nbsp;A breathless male voice called.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Wilder Hill rolled his eyes.&nbsp;&nbsp;\u201cYes, Seb?\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cMr. Kline is on the line.&nbsp;&nbsp;He said it\u2019s urgent.\u201d&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cFuck me.&nbsp;&nbsp;Alright, I will be right there.\u201d&nbsp;&nbsp;He turned toward me and bowed.&nbsp;&nbsp;\u201cUntil we meet again, Ms. Albright.\u201d&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Edie and I watched as he followed his assistant down the hallway.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI\u2019d warn you away from him but that boy has a way with the ladies.\u201d&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThat won\u2019t be a problem.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Edie lifted an eyebrow in question.&nbsp;&nbsp;\u201cYou have a husband?\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I snorted.&nbsp;&nbsp;\u201cNo.\u201d&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cFianc\u00e9e or boyfriend?\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cNo.&nbsp;&nbsp;I\u2019m just not interested in what he\u2019d need assistance with.&nbsp;&nbsp;You can be rest assured, I am here to work not romance.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Edie smiled.&nbsp;&nbsp;\u201cLet\u2019s finish this tour and get you to meet the Mr. Hill you will be working with.\u201d&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We walked toward an office with darkened windows.&nbsp;&nbsp;It looked like all the lights were off.&nbsp;&nbsp;Edie continued to explain each of the offices and their occupants as we passed.&nbsp;&nbsp;My nervous butterflies began to flutter so fast I thought I\u2019d begin vibrating.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis will be your desk.&nbsp;&nbsp;For this week, I will be joining you here.&nbsp;&nbsp;I will call IT to make get you access to everything you need.&nbsp;&nbsp;They should already have things-\u201c<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cEdie?&nbsp;&nbsp;Are you out there?\u201d&nbsp;&nbsp;The intercom on the desk squawked.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cYes, Mr. Hill.&nbsp;&nbsp;I have your new assistant here.&nbsp;&nbsp;Are you available to meet her?\u201d&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cSure.&nbsp;&nbsp;Bring her in.\u201d&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He sounded less than enthusiastic to have me around.&nbsp;&nbsp;Wonderful.&nbsp;&nbsp;One brother was going to be a pain in the ass with his flirting.&nbsp;&nbsp;The other brother was going to be an arrogant prick.&nbsp;&nbsp;I had to remind myself that it didn\u2019t matter.&nbsp;&nbsp;This job was a stepping stone for my degree.&nbsp;&nbsp;Nothing was going to distract me from that.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ll bring her in.\u201d&nbsp;&nbsp;Edie smiled at me.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cShould I grab a tablet or anything?\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cNo.&nbsp;&nbsp;I don\u2019t think he will have anything for us yet this morning.&nbsp;&nbsp;Like you, he\u2019s still getting his feet under him in the position.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Edie stepped away from the desk and approached the door.&nbsp;&nbsp;I followed close behind.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cMr. Hill this is Ms. Skylar Albright.&nbsp;&nbsp;Ms. Albright this is Mr. Eason Hill.\u201d&nbsp;&nbsp;Edie introduced.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s
