Who or what inspired you to become a writer?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I heard a story teller in Kentucky when I was young.\u00a0 He was entrancing, the way he blended character, atmosphere and plot.\u00a0 The impact was dramatic.\u00a0 People laughed, cried and shouted.\u00a0 I witnessed the power of a good story expertly told.\u00a0 I wanted to do that.\u00a0 So I embarked on becoming a writer.\u00a0 And then I embarked again&#8230; and again&#8230; and, somehow I think writers are always embarking, journeying and then embarking again.\u00a0 But that story teller from Kentucky inspired me to buy the first ticket for what has become a long series of ticket buying, and embarking on journeys.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2. How long did it take you to write <i>The Christmas Diary<\/i>?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Six months on the first draft.\u00a0 It lay around for months more, then was rewritten, reedited and proofed and then revised.\u00a0 All total, about a year.<\/p>\n<p><strong>3. While writing how many times do you go back and rewrite a plot?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Every book begins with the title.\u00a0 The title is a small poem and the plot grows out of that.\u00a0 Once underway, the book unravels with hope-filled happy surprises.\u00a0 If by page 50 the book lacks life, it\u2019s abandoned.\u00a0 If it flows, I rarely rewrite the plot.<\/p>\n<p><strong>4. You run into a bookstore, where do you go first?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>To the hardback new fiction releases.<\/p>\n<p><strong>5. How many books in a month do you tend to read?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Eight to ten books.<\/p>\n<p><strong>6. In all the books you&#8217;ve read. Who is your most favorite character and why?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Ebenezer Scrooge.\u00a0 He\u2019s loathsome, rich, greedy, mean, frightening, odious and then&#8230; loveable, generous, delightful, joyful and loving.\u00a0 It is very difficult to write a character any more entertaining, complex and textured than Scrooge.\u00a0 But then, Dickens was skilled and supreme.<\/p>\n<p><strong>7. State 5 random facts about yourself<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>A fair jazz pianist<\/p>\n<p>Speech-language pathologist<\/p>\n<p>Believe in reincarnation<\/p>\n<p>Grew up in a family of astrologers<\/p>\n<p>Love watching kids catch the spark for learning and exploration of life.<\/p>\n<p><strong>8. Your favorite Genre?<\/strong> \u00a0Romantic mystery.<\/p>\n<p><strong>9. What are you currently reading?<\/strong>\u00a0 <i>Beautiful Ruins<\/i>, by Jess Walter<\/p>\n<p><strong>10. What is the best book you&#8217;ve read?<\/strong>\u00a0 <i>Grapes of Wrath<\/i> by John Steinbeck.<\/p>\n<p><strong>11. Any new projects coming up?<\/strong> Currently working on three. In her room, she finds an old diary written by a man who had once owned the house.
