I just finished listening to The Art of Racing in the Rain.\u00a0 This book was recommended to me by a friend who is an English teacher.\u00a0 I thought well she couldn’t be wrong since she is teaching the English language for a living.\u00a0 She wasn’t wrong, but I think I would have liked this book much better if I had read it instead of listening to it.\u00a0 I enjoyed Enzo and his philosophical insights.\u00a0 I even forgot he was a dog sometimes, but other times when he’s playing fetch or having accidents in the house it was a real reminder the narrater was not a human.<\/p>\n
I thought Garth Stein did a really good job and made me wonder if my own dog thought some of the same things.\u00a0 The story really draws you in after a while.\u00a0 But, as I said I listened to this book and I don’t think I got enough out of it as I would have if I was actually physically reading the book.\u00a0 It was a shorter book and I know Iwill have to re-read this at some point.\u00a0 Probably just not right now.<\/p>\n
Maybe some books should come with disclaimers: READ this book…DON’T GET AUDIO of this book.\u00a0 I don’t have a problem with either kind of reading, but when you have a do philsophising about how dogs will get re-incarnated as humans when they are ready, I think you need to physcally see these words instead of listening to them.\u00a0 I think the focus needs to be there with this book.\u00a0 I do recommend this book, but just don’t recommend the audio.<\/p>\n
My English teacher friend was correct I did like this book.\u00a0 It grew on me and I came to really care about Enzo, Zoe and Denny, but I think I would have gotten a more profound understanding of the book had I read it instead of listening to it.<\/p>\n
