{"id":284,"date":"2012-06-01T02:53:03","date_gmt":"2012-06-01T06:53:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/bookmaven623.wordpress.com\/?p=284"},"modified":"2012-06-01T02:53:03","modified_gmt":"2012-06-01T06:53:03","slug":"lounging-by-the-kiddie-pool-my-top-10-summer-re-reads","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jackiepaxsonauthor.com\/index.php\/2012\/06\/01\/lounging-by-the-kiddie-pool-my-top-10-summer-re-reads\/","title":{"rendered":"Lounging by the Kiddie Pool (My Top 10 Summer Re-Reads)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>One of the main points of summer is relaxation, vacation and letting the winter blues float away on waves of summer sun and fun.\u00a0 For me, summer forces a choice between reading new books and\/or\u00a0 re-reading some of my favorite books.\u00a0 I can never choose between the two so I do both.\u00a0 I read a new book then to almost do a sort of cleansing I re-read a book that I have read many times already.\u00a0 The upside to doing this is you get the excitement of the new book\/author but also get to be re-acquainted with previous enjoyable stories.<\/p>\n<p>Choosing what to re-read is one of the biggest challenges.\u00a0 Sometimes for me it&#8217;s just a matter of what kind of mood I am in.\u00a0 But, for the most part there are certain books I tend to gravitate to when I need to read something that feels like new each time but I have the comfort of knowing what is going to happen and know the characters like they are old friends. One of the many upsides of the summer re-read is that you don&#8217;t have to go in series order.\u00a0 If your favorite book is not the first one it is not necessary to re-read all of them to get to your favorite.\u00a0 It&#8217;s the summer go crazy and start in the middle.\u00a0 This was a hard list to come up with because I have a lot of books that I could put in this category.\u00a0 But, I figured I would pick some lesser known authors to include in the list to introduce to a wider audience.\u00a0 Plus, they are really good and should get noticed!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/bookmaven623.files.wordpress.com\/2012\/06\/97058357.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-293\" title=\"97058357\" src=\"http:\/\/bookmaven623.files.wordpress.com\/2012\/06\/97058357.jpg?w=97\" alt=\"\" width=\"97\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a>10.\u00a0 <strong>Juliet by Anne Fortier<\/strong>-This is a unique twist on Shakespeare&#8217;s Romeo and Juliet.\u00a0 I enjoy the jumping from the past to present and connections between the past characters and the present ones.\u00a0 Plus, who doesn&#8217;t like a good Romeo and Juliet type of story.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/bookmaven623.files.wordpress.com\/2012\/06\/79051337.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-thumbnail wp-image-292\" title=\"79051337\" src=\"http:\/\/bookmaven623.files.wordpress.com\/2012\/06\/79051337.jpg?w=109\" alt=\"\" width=\"109\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a>9.\u00a0 <strong>The Mating by Nicky Charles<\/strong>-This is one of the best free books I have ever come across.\u00a0 The author publishes her own books so you have to take some of the editing with a grain of salt and just focus on the writing.\u00a0 She reinvents the idea of werewolves and make it seem very believable.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/bookmaven623.files.wordpress.com\/2012\/06\/1505077601.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-300\" title=\"150507760\" src=\"http:\/\/bookmaven623.files.wordpress.com\/2012\/06\/1505077601.jpg?w=99\" alt=\"\" width=\"99\" height=\"150\" srcset=\"https:\/\/jackiepaxsonauthor.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/1505077601.jpg 300w, https:\/\/jackiepaxsonauthor.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/1505077601-198x300.jpg 198w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 99px) 100vw, 99px\" \/><\/a>8.\u00a0 <strong>Lover Reborn (Black dagger Brotherhood #10) by J.R Ward<\/strong>-This is the 10th book in the Blackdagger Brotherhood Series.\u00a0 This book focuses on Tohrment and No&#8217;One\/Autumn.\u00a0 I feel the need to re-read this one because I read it so fast the first time through I don&#8217;t think I got everything I wanted and needed.\u00a0 Plus, for those BDB fans out there&#8230;I need my Qhuinn and Blay fix.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/bookmaven623.files.wordpress.com\/2012\/06\/147974123.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-thumbnail wp-image-294\" title=\"147974123\" src=\"http:\/\/bookmaven623.files.wordpress.com\/2012\/06\/147974123.jpg?w=91\" alt=\"\" width=\"91\" height=\"150\" srcset=\"https:\/\/jackiepaxsonauthor.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/147974123.jpg 366w, https:\/\/jackiepaxsonauthor.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/147974123-183x300.jpg 183w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 91px) 100vw, 91px\" \/><\/a>7.\u00a0 <strong>Darkfever (Fever Series #1) by Karen Marie Moning<\/strong>-We meet MacKayla Lane from Ga in this first book in the Fever Series.\u00a0 You quickly fall for her as she discover&#8217;s who she is and why she is being hunted.\u00a0 All the while she is searching for the killer of her sister. But for those familiar with the Fever Series all I really have to say about this is&#8230;BARRONS!!!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/bookmaven623.files.wordpress.com\/2012\/06\/166402072.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-298\" title=\"166402072\" src=\"http:\/\/bookmaven623.files.wordpress.com\/2012\/06\/166402072.jpg?w=98\" alt=\"\" width=\"98\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a>6.\u00a0 <strong>Marked (Eternal Guardians #1) by Elisabeth Naughton<\/strong>-Marked is the first in Elisabeth Naughton&#8217;s Eternal Guardians series. You are introduced to the Guardians, but this book focuses on their leader Theron.\u00a0 If you like Greek mythology with a twist you will like this series.\u00a0 The story is fast paced and an excellent beginning to a wonderful series.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/bookmaven623.files.wordpress.com\/2012\/06\/148618720.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-thumbnail wp-image-295\" title=\"148618720\" src=\"http:\/\/bookmaven623.files.wordpress.com\/2012\/06\/148618720.jpg?w=94\" alt=\"\" width=\"94\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a>5.\u00a0 <strong>The Naked Viscount by Sally Mackenzie<\/strong>-This is definitely my favorite in Sally Mackenzie&#8217;s Naked Series.\u00a0 You won&#8217;t find two better Characters than Jane and Edmund.\u00a0 She is headstrong and he just doesn&#8217;t know what hits him when she does.\u00a0 It&#8217;s a really fun Regency romance.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/bookmaven623.files.wordpress.com\/2012\/06\/51653448.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-291\" title=\"51653448\" src=\"http:\/\/bookmaven623.files.wordpress.com\/2012\/06\/51653448.jpg?w=91\" alt=\"\" width=\"91\" height=\"150\" srcset=\"https:\/\/jackiepaxsonauthor.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/51653448.jpg 365w, https:\/\/jackiepaxsonauthor.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/51653448-183x300.jpg 183w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 91px) 100vw, 91px\" \/><\/a>4.\u00a0 <strong>A Certain Wolfish Charm by Lydia Dare<\/strong>-I really like all of Lydia Dare&#8217;s books.\u00a0 This is the first in her series with the Westfield brothers.\u00a0 Once you meet them you will be coming back for more.\u00a0 \u00a0 Simon is brutish and Lily doesn&#8217;t put up with his act.\u00a0 All the while you throw in some paranormal (werewolves) and its a unique Regency Paranormal Romance.\u00a0 Not many of those out there!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/bookmaven623.files.wordpress.com\/2012\/06\/152131072.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-thumbnail wp-image-297\" title=\"152131072\" src=\"http:\/\/bookmaven623.files.wordpress.com\/2012\/06\/152131072.jpg?w=91\" alt=\"\" width=\"91\" height=\"150\" srcset=\"https:\/\/jackiepaxsonauthor.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/152131072.jpg 289w, https:\/\/jackiepaxsonauthor.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/152131072-183x300.jpg 183w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 91px) 100vw, 91px\" \/><\/a>3.\u00a0 <strong>Exclusively Yours by Shannon Stacey<\/strong>-If you like Carly Philips&#8217; books you will like Shannon Stacey.\u00a0 There writing is similar and very cute.\u00a0 This is a nice fresh read especially between books.\u00a0 Her characters are funny and very relatable which helps the story move very fast.\u00a0 I would recommend all of her books, but this one in particular is my favorite.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/bookmaven623.files.wordpress.com\/2012\/06\/151737052.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-296\" title=\"151737052\" src=\"http:\/\/bookmaven623.files.wordpress.com\/2012\/06\/151737052.jpg?w=113\" alt=\"\" width=\"113\" height=\"150\" srcset=\"https:\/\/jackiepaxsonauthor.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/151737052.jpg 300w, https:\/\/jackiepaxsonauthor.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/151737052-227x300.jpg 227w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 113px) 100vw, 113px\" \/><\/a>2.\u00a0 <strong>Shadow Bound by Erin Kellison<\/strong>-This book has to be my all-time favorite book that I found for free.\u00a0 It is definitely a different take on Death (Grim Reaper) and the idea that he falls in love and has a child.\u00a0 This story is about the child and the powers she has.\u00a0 The characters are well-formed and the story is very well thought out leading us to believe there is a continuing story.\u00a0 Adam and Talia are unforgettable characters that will leave you wanting more or to just go back and read about them all over again.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/bookmaven623.files.wordpress.com\/2012\/05\/167871607.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-thumbnail wp-image-236\" title=\"167871607\" src=\"http:\/\/bookmaven623.files.wordpress.com\/2012\/05\/167871607.jpg?w=97\" alt=\"\" width=\"97\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a>1.\u00a0 <strong>A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness<\/strong>-Not much more I can say about Matthew and Diana that I haven&#8217;t already said in my book review.\u00a0 There story is epic and since there continuation in Shadow of Night is coming out I have to re-acquaint myself with all the nuances of the story so they are fresh for the next one.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>If any of these books interest you I would suggest going over to Amazon or Barnes and Noble to see the actual overviews of that book.\u00a0 Also, if you haven&#8217;t read the series I wouldn&#8217;t always suggest jumping into the middle.\u00a0 It could be
