{"id":379,"date":"2012-06-17T13:14:50","date_gmt":"2012-06-17T17:14:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/bookmaven623.wordpress.com\/?p=379"},"modified":"2012-06-17T13:14:50","modified_gmt":"2012-06-17T17:14:50","slug":"fathers-day-funnies-memories-of-a-practical-joker","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jackiepaxsonauthor.com\/index.php\/2012\/06\/17\/fathers-day-funnies-memories-of-a-practical-joker\/","title":{"rendered":"Father&#8217;s Day Funnies: Memories of a practical joker."},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/bookmaven623.files.wordpress.com\/2012\/06\/frugal-gift-father-fathers-day-dove-men-care-ecards-someecards.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-382\" title=\"frugal-gift-father-fathers-day-dove-men-care-ecards-someecards\" src=\"http:\/\/bookmaven623.files.wordpress.com\/2012\/06\/frugal-gift-father-fathers-day-dove-men-care-ecards-someecards.png?w=300\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"167\" srcset=\"https:\/\/jackiepaxsonauthor.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/frugal-gift-father-fathers-day-dove-men-care-ecards-someecards.png 425w, https:\/\/jackiepaxsonauthor.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/frugal-gift-father-fathers-day-dove-men-care-ecards-someecards-300x167.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>Today is Father&#8217;s Day and it&#8217;s a day to celebrate those who are father figures in our lives whether its your actual father, a favorite uncle, a beloved grandfather or even a mom who is like a father.\u00a0 This is my 8th Father&#8217;s day without my father.\u00a0 He passed away from colon cancer December 2003.\u00a0 So, this Father&#8217;s day I wanted to remember all of the crazy things he used to do.\u00a0 He was well-known for playing jokes and being able to convince anyone that anything was true, even when most of it was false.\u00a0 Today I am pointing out some of my funniest memories of my dad.\u00a0 I know he has so many more than this, but these are just my favorites.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u00a0 <strong>Mr. Ed<\/strong>-When I was around 4 my Dad asked me if I knew how they got Mr. Ed to talk.\u00a0 I, of course, didn&#8217;t know.\u00a0 He told me that they stuck a carrot up his butt and that made him talk.\u00a0 My mom proceeded to tell him that he shouldn&#8217;t say that to me.\u00a0 He thought I would never remember what he told me.\u00a0 That was 28 years ago.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>The Mall<\/strong>-My dad was well-known to avoid us passing any kind of store my brother and I would want to go into while at the Mall.\u00a0 So, each time we passed the store we wanted to go into he would say, &#8220;We will stop when we pass it again.&#8221;\u00a0 We managed to NEVER pass the store again.\u00a0 We would walk around the outside of the Mall through the parking lots just to avoid the store.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>\u00a0<strong> The Lazy River<\/strong>-This is one of my favorites.\u00a0 When we would go to a water park as kids my dad would go on one ride.\u00a0 The Lazy River.\u00a0 This is the ride where you would sit in an inner tube and ride the currents of the pool.\u00a0 My dad would ride on this for hours.\u00a0 Yes, hours.\u00a0 How did he get away with this you may wonder.\u00a0 Well, he would keep to the outer edge of the river and swim away from the lifeguards.\u00a0 He did this every single time.\u00a0 I think after a while the lifeguards would just ignore that he never got off.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>\u00a0<strong>Swim shoes<\/strong>-I&#8217;m sure everyone has seen these before.\u00a0 They are meant to be used at the beach or the pool so that your feet are protected.\u00a0 I hated these shoes.\u00a0 I still hate these shoes.\u00a0 Why?\u00a0 Because my dad wouldn&#8217;t just wear these shoes in the water park or beach.\u00a0 He would wear them anywhere.\u00a0 I still get embarrassed thinking about it.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Phillies Game\/Phillie Phanatic<\/strong>&#8211; This only happened once.\u00a0 I think that is because I was becoming wise to the fact that I had to question what my dad said.\u00a0 In this particular occasion my dad told me to be sure to sit and watch the entire Phillies game because he was going to be sitting in the dugout with the team.\u00a0 He told me I had to pay really close attention to try to see him.\u00a0 And I like the gullible kid I was I sat and watched the whole game.\u00a0 And guess what&#8230;I didn&#8217;t see him.\u00a0 My dad kept the ruse up by eventually introducing me to a guy he proclaimed was the Philly Phanatic.\u00a0 My mom finally told me when I was a bit older that my dad didn&#8217;t know the Phillie Phanatic and that he never sat in the dugout with the Phillies.\u00a0 My dad just laughed.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Birthday&#8217;s in a restaurant<\/strong>-This one for once didn&#8217;t have anything to do with me or my brother, but it happened without fail.\u00a0 Every time my family went out to dinner with my parents best friends and their family it was always someone&#8217;s birthday.\u00a0 EVERY time my dad would wait until his best friend, Mr.H, left the table. He then proceeded to tell the waiter\/waitress that it was Mr.H&#8217;s birthday.\u00a0 So, when Mr. H came\u00a0 back the whole wait staff would come out and surround him and sing Happy Birthday or whatever other song rendition that restaurant did.\u00a0 I do think the best thing was that Mr. H never knew it was coming and he never connected that the birthday song was for him until it was too late.\u00a0 I would say the look on his face was priceless.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Reminiscing about some of my dad&#8217;s more ornery moments reminds me of my most favorite memory.\u00a0 My dad had a way of making all of my birthday&#8217;s special.\u00a0 He would manage to fill my bedroom with balloons.\u00a0 I still recall waking up to see the colors of all the balloons.\u00a0 It made me feel special every single time.
