\"\"<\/a>This week’s author profile is Kerrelyn Sparks.\u00a0 She is the author of the Love at Stake paranormal romance series.\u00a0 This is one of my favorite series’.\u00a0 Her author profile has been long time coming.<\/p>\n

Kerrelyn Sparks’ first book, How to Marry a Millionaire Vampire<\/em>, was released in 2005 and immediately hit Borders Best Debut Romance of 2005.\u00a0 Her popularity has grown incrementally from there.\u00a0 Ms. Sparks’ books have hit the New York Times Bestseller list ever since her fourth book hit stores.\u00a0 Ms. Sparks is currently living in the Houston area with her husband and children.<\/p>\n

Ms. Sparks’ writing is phenomenal.\u00a0 There is no question she deserves all the awards and accolades she has received.\u00a0 The sense of humor she brings to her characters draws you in.\u00a0 I have laughed out loud many times in her books. \u00a0 You can easily see yourself in these characters.\u00a0 Even though her most popular books are a paranormal series you can completely lose yourself and forget that these are vampires and shapeshifters that she is writing about.<\/p>\n

I was first introduced to Ms. Sparks’s book as a Free Friday pick with Barnes and Noble.\u00a0 Ever since I have had to read all the books she comes out with.\u00a0 I am definitely a fan and suggest you become one too.\u00a0 You will not be disappointed.\u00a0 I am going to share with you an excerpt from my favorite book in her Love At Stake series.<\/p>\n

Excerpt from my favorite in Kerrelyn Sparks’ Love At Stake series, All I Want for Christmas is a Vampire<\/em>:<\/p>\n

From chapter two\u2026<\/p>\n

She made a stunning cat burglar, dressed entirely in black spandex that molded to her waist and sweetly curved hips. Her golden hair hung in a ponytail down her back. The ends swished gently across her shoulder blades as she moved her head from side to side, scanning the bookshelf.<\/p>\n

She stepped to the side, silent in her black socks. She must have left her shoes outside the window, thinking she\u2019d move more quietly without them. He noted her slim ankles, then let his gaze wander back up to golden hair. He would have to be careful capturing her. Like any Vamp, he had super strength, and she looked a bit fragile.<\/p>\n

He moved silently past the wingback chairs to the window. It made a swooshing sound as he shut it.<\/p>\n

With a gasp, she turned toward him. Her eyes widened. Eyes green as the hills surrounding his home in Scotland.<\/p>\n

A surge of desire left him speechless for a moment. She seemed equally speechless. No doubt she was busily contemplating an escape route.<\/p>\n

He moved slowly toward her. \u201cYe willna escape through the window. And ye canna reach the door before me.\u201d<\/p>\n

She stepped back. \u201cWho are you? Do you live here?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ll be asking the questions, once I have ye restrained.\u201d He could hear her heart beating faster. Her face remained expressionless, except for her eyes. They flashed with defiance. They were beautiful.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>She plucked a heavy book off a nearby shelf. \u201cDid you come here to test my abilities?\u201d<\/p>\n

An odd question. Was he misinterpreting the situation? \u201cWho\u2014\u201d He dodged to the side when she suddenly hurled the book at his face. Bugger, he\u2019d suffered too much to get his older, more manly face, and she\u2019d nearly smacked it.<\/p>\n

The book flew past him and knocked over the lamp. The light flickered and went out. With his superior vision, he could see her dark form running for the door.<\/p>\n

He zoomed after her. Just before he could grab her, she spun and landed a kick against his chest. He stumbled back. Damn, she was stronger than he\u2019d thought. And he\u2019d suffered too much to get his broader, more manly chest.<\/p>\n

She advanced with a series of punches and kicks, and he blocked them all. With a desperate move, she aimed a kick at his groin. Dammit, he\u2019d suffered too much to get his bigger, more manly balls. He jumped back, but her toes caught the hem of his kilt. Without his sporran to weigh the kilt down, it flew up past his waist.<\/p>\n

Her gaze flitted south and stuck. Her mouth fell open. Aye, those twelve years of growth had been kind. He lunged forward and slammed her onto the carpet. She punched at him, so he caught her wrists and pinned her to the floor.<\/p>\n

She twisted, attempting to knee him. With a growl, he blocked her with his own knee. Then slowly he lowered himself on top of her to keep her still. Her body was gloriously hot, flushed with blood and throbbing with a life force that made his body tremble with desire.<\/p>\n

\u201cStop wiggling, lass.\u201d His bigger, more manly groin was reacting in an even bigger way. \u201cHave mercy on me.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cMercy?\u201d She continued to wriggle beneath him. \u201cI\u2019m the one who\u2019s captured.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cCease.\u201d He pressed more heavily on her.<\/p>\n

Her eyes widened. He had no doubt she was feeling it.<\/p>\n

Her gaze flickered down, then back to his face. \u201cGet off. Now.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m halfway there already,\u201d he muttered.<\/p>\n

\u201cLet me go!\u201d She strained at his grip on her wrists.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf I release you, ye\u2019ll knee me. And I\u2019m rather fond of my balls.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThe feeling isn\u2019t mutual.\u201d<\/p>\n

He smiled slowly. \u201cYe took a long look. Ye must have liked what ye saw.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cHa! You made such a small<\/em> impression on me, I can barely remember.\u201d<\/p>\n

He chuckled. She was as quick mentally as she was physically.<\/p>\n

She looked at him curiously. \u201cYou smell like beer.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve had a few.\u201d He noted her dubious look. \u201cOkay, more than a few, but I was still able to beat you.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIf you drink beer, then that means you\u2019re not…\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cNo\u2019 what?\u201d<\/p>\n

She looked at him, her eyes wide. He had a sinking feeling that she thought he was mortal. She wanted him to be mortal. And that meant she knew about Vamps.<\/p>\n

He studied her lovely face–the high cheekbones, delicate jawline, and beguiling green eyes. Some Vamps claimed mortals had no power whatsoever. They were wrong.<\/p>\n

Their eyes met, and he forgot to breathe. There was something hidden in those green depths. A loneliness. A wound that seemed too old for her tender age. For a moment, he felt like he was seeing a reflection of his own soul.<\/p>\n

\u201cYe\u2019re no\u2019 a thief, are ye?\u201d he whispered.<\/p>\n

She shook her head slightly, still trapped in his gaze. Or maybe it was he who was trapped in hers.<\/p>\n

\u201cIan.\u201d Footsteps approached them. \u201cIan, what the hell are you doing?\u201d<\/p>\n

He dragged his gaze away from her and saw Phineas standing beside them. \u201cWhat?\u201d<\/p>\n

Phineas gave him a confused look. \u201cWhy are you beating up on Toni?\u201d<\/p>\n

He blinked and glanced at the woman he\u2019d pinned to the floor. \u201cYe\u2019re…Toni<\/em>?\u201d Their new guard was a woman?<\/p>\n

\u201cYou\u2019re Ian?\u201d Disappointment flickered in her eyes before she looked away. \u201cYou\u2019re one of them.\u201d<\/p>\n

That hurt. For centuries he\u2019d been judged too young, and now, after all the pain he\u2019d endured, he was still found wanting. His jaw shifted as he ground his teeth. \u201cYe have something against Vamps?\u201d<\/p>\n

Her eyes flared with anger. \u201cYes. I tend to get really pissed when they attack me.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cShe\u2019s got a point, bro,\u201d Phineas muttered as he adjusted the tie around his purple satin bathrobe. \u201cYou shouldn\u2019t attack her. She\u2019s our friend.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ian moved his weight off her. \u201cFriendship is earned.\u201d<\/p>\n

She scooted away from him and sat up. \u201cI\u2019m not here to be your friend. I\u2019m your guard. That\u2019s all.\u201d<\/p>\n

He stared at her. Connor had hired a woman<\/em> to guard men<\/em>? This was unheard of in the vampire world. A mortal woman wouldn\u2019t have the strength…unless she was a shifter like Phil and Howard. \u201cAre ye\u2014\u201d How could he put this when shape shifters were a secret? \u201cDo ye change a bit at a certain time of the month?\u201d<\/p>\n

She gave him an incredulous look. \u201cAre you asking me if I get PMS? Are you serious?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cNay! I dinna mean\u2014\u201d Ian stopped, interrupted by Phineas\u2019s laughter.<\/p>\n

\u201cI know what you\u2019re thinking, man,\u201d Phineas said, \u201cbut she\u2019s normal.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cNormal?\u201d She glared at Phineas. \u201cI nailed your ass earlier this evening.\u201d<\/p>\n

He held up his hands in surrender. \u201cDon\u2019t hurt me, sweetness. You\u2019re a strong, beautiful hunk of woman.\u201d<\/p>\n

She inclined her head. \u201cThank you.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cConnor told me on the phone that he\u2019d hired a Tony,\u201d Ian muttered. \u201cI thought ye would be a man.\u201d<\/p>\n

Her eyes narrowed. \u201cI thought you would be somewhat intelligent.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cSnap!\u201d Phineas grinned. \u201cShe got you good, bro.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ian scowled. \u201cIt was perfectly logical to assume Tony was a man\u2019s name.\u201d<\/p>\n

She lifted her chin. \u201cIs it logical to attack people without talking to them first?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIn this case, aye, it was. The window was open\u2014\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI opened it,\u201d she interrupted. \u201cIt was as stuffy as a tomb in here, and I was hot.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cSweetness, you\u2019re so hot, you\u2019re sizzling.\u201d Phineas made some hissing sounds.<\/p>\n

Ian shot him an annoyed look, then resumed his explanation. \u201cThe window sensor triggered the alarm, and when I investigated the matter, I found you looking at verra expensive books, dressed like a cat burglar.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYeah, you do look like a hot and sexy Catwoman,\u201d Phineas clawed at the air. \u201cMeow! Hiss!\u201d<\/p>\n

Now she gave Phineas an annoyed look. \u201cThese are my workout clothes.\u201d She switched her green-eyed glare to Ian. \u201cAnd I never heard an alarm.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cOnly Vamps and dogs can hear it.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cOh. Which one are you?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cSnap!\u201d Phineas slapped his leg. \u201cShe\u2019s killing you, man.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cPhineas,\u201d Ian growled. \u201cI\u2019m trying to have a conversation here.\u201d He turned to Toni. \u201cI\u2019m sorry, lass, but this will never work. Ye canna guard a houseful of men. Ye see how Phineas reacts to you.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s a lot nicer than you are!\u201d Her eyes glinted with anger. \u201cAnd it\u2019s not my problem if you\u2019re a bunch a sexist pigs. I can do this job, with or without PMS. I beat Phineas earlier, and I would have pinned you down, too, given more time.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cLass, ye would never pin me.\u201d He leaned toward her. \u201cI like to be on top.\u201d<\/p>\n

Her eyes flashed with green fire.<\/p>\n

\u201cGood one!\u201d Phineas shook a fist in the air. \u201cYou\u2019re making your comeback, bro. You da man!\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s a pig,<\/em>\u201d Toni grumbled.<\/p>\n

\u201cOink, oink,\u201d Phineas squeaked.<\/p>\n

\u201cEnough, Phineas!\u201d Ian glowered at him. \u201cI can see why ye were murdered young.\u201d<\/p>\n

A laugh escaped from Toni, but she quickly squelched it and frowned at him.<\/p>\n

She had a sense of humor? It wasn\u2019t all that important in the grand scheme of things, but Ian was suddenly taken with the challenge to make her laugh again, or at least, make her smile. Unfortunately, he couldn\u2019t think of anything amusing to say.<\/p>\n

He rose to his feet and executed a gallant bow. \u201cI apologize for attacking you. I hope I dinna hurt you.\u201d<\/p>\n

Her frown relaxed slightly. \u201cI\u2019m okay.\u201d<\/p>\n

He offered a hand to help her up.<\/p>\n

She regarded him suspiciously. \u201cYou\u2019re not going to tell Connor to fire me, are you? I really can do this job.\u201d<\/p>\n

An uneasy feeling settled in his gut. Why on earth would a lovely mortal woman want a job guarding vampires?<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
