I have been away from my blog for a while.\u00a0 That is partially due to the amount of new books that came out in late March and April and just life in general getting in the way.\u00a0 So, I figured I would divert a little from books and talk movies and tv.\u00a0 I have noticed that almost all of the new movies coming out are based on books, comic books or graphic novels.\u00a0 I wonder where has all the creative innovation has gone.<\/p>\n
Don’t get me wrong I like the idea of a lot of books being made into movies or tv shows.\u00a0 The major problem with that is when I read a book a mini-movie plays in my head.\u00a0 I create the looks from the description.\u00a0 I create the voices from the description.\u00a0 I create the look of the landscape.\u00a0 But, what I create doesn’t mean the person sitting next to me who is reading the exact same book is watching the same movie in their head.<\/p>\n
This is the major problem of adapting books into movies and television series.\u00a0 I almost cringe whenever I hear about a new adaptation coming out.\u00a0 Then on the other hand I can sit and drool over who will be cast as the main characters.\u00a0 But, I think that as patrons of the movies and watchers of television we have such high hopes and even go as far as re-reading the books or reading them for the first time before the movie comes out.<\/p>\n
Inevitably though we are caught in some sort of disappointment because producers didn’t put in something you\/I thought was an important plot point or the characters don’t look anything like the characters in your\/my personal movie.\u00a0 The biggest travesty is when they change major plot points like True Blood did for Sookie Stackhouse or My Sisters Keeper by Jodi Picoult’s ending which was one of the best parts was completely changed.<\/p>\n
So…with all the pluses and minuses with making your favorite book series into movies or tv series I am asking you.\u00a0 Which book series would you like to see your internal movie up on the big or small screen?<\/p>\n
