After being held hostage during a robbery at the local convenience store, seventeen year old Edie finds her attitude about life shattered. Unwilling to put up with the snobbery and bullying at her private school, she enrolls at the local public high school, crossing paths with John. The boy who risked his life to save hers.<\/h3>\n

While Edie\u2019s beginning to run wild, however, John\u2019s just starting to settle down. After years of partying and dealing drugs with his older brother, he\u2019s going straight\u2014getting to class on time, and thinking about the future.<\/h3>\n

An unlikely bond grows between the two as John keeps Edie out of trouble and helps her broaden her horizons. But when he helps her out with another first\u2014losing her virginity\u2014their friendship gets complicated.<\/h3>\n

Meanwhile, Edie and John are pulled back into the dangerous world they narrowly escaped. They were lucky to survive the first time, but this time they have more to lose\u2014each other.<\/h3>\n

Review:<\/h2>\n

Being held at gunpoint is not the normal teenage experience.\u00a0 Smoking for the first time, falling in love, getting your heartbroken and going to prom are all normal teenage experiences.\u00a0 For Edie, the only thing that happened was being held at gunpoint and watching people die.\u00a0 Fortunately for her she isn’t alone in that experience.\u00a0 John is there with her.\u00a0 Edie will rely on John and John on Edie, but in the end will they truly trust and cope or will it all be gone at the end of a gun?
\nI loved this book.\u00a0 Kylie Scott is one of my favorite authors.\u00a0 She is good at writing steamy romances with rocker and alpha males.\u00a0 I was a little skeptical with her step into the young adult genre.\u00a0 Well, she blew it out of the water.\u00a0 She takes a horrible experience for two people and creates an emotionally complex story and keeps the reality of them still being teenagers part of the story.\u00a0 Edie and John are fantastic.\u00a0 I truly think this is probably one of the most captivating of Kylie Scott’s books.\u00a0 You are drawn into this story and won’t be able to put it down.\u00a0 The emotions and coping along with the aspect of PTSD for both characters truly colors every aspect.\u00a0 Who Edie and John are before the conveninece store the reader will never know.\u00a0 But, the Edie and John that come after are complex, emotional and real.\u00a0 I loved this book.\u00a0 It is one of my favorites for 2017.\u00a0 I hope to see more from Kylie Scott in this new to her genre.<\/p>\n

\u201cTo be fair, I didn\u2019t know his last name was Dickerson,\u201d I said. \u201cThat\u2019s unfortunate. Though, I wasn\u2019t actually planning on marrying him, so . . .\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cNot funny.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

I shrugged.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cYou barely know the guy.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cUm, yeah. None of your concern. We\u2019re not talking about this.\u201d How mortifying! My face burned bright. People should just gather around and cook s\u2019mores. \u201cI appreciate that we\u2019re friends. You mean a lot to me. But this is going to have to fall under definitely none of your damn business, so go away please.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re talking about it.\u201d He advanced a step.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cNo we are not.\u201d And I retreated.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cYou were going to let a complete stranger touch you.\u201d Advance.<\/span><\/p>\n

Retreat. \u201cPeople do it all the time. You do it all the time.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cBut you don\u2019t,\u201d he said, taking the final step, backing me up against the side of his car and getting all in my face. \u201cEdie, this is your first time we\u2019re talking about. Isn\u2019t it?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cYes, and it\u2019s going to be messy and painful and probably horribly embarrassing and I just want it over and done with.\u201d I tried to meet his eyes but failed, settling for a spot on his right shoulder. \u201cYou\u2019re not a girl; you wouldn\u2019t understand. Also, last time I checked, you\u2019re not the gatekeeper of my hymen, John Cole. So back the fuck off.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

He said nothing.<\/span><\/p>\n

Deep, calming breaths. \u201cLook, someday I\u2019ll meet someone I really like and we\u2019ll have a deep and meaningful relationship and go at it like bunnies. But I don\u2019t want to be the dumb virgin in that scenario.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

He slowly shook his head.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cAlso, I do not want to die a virgin.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWhat? What the hell are you talking about?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cHey, you and I both know death can occur at any time.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThis is crazy.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m seeing a therapist!\u201d I told his shoulder. \u201cI don\u2019t know if you noticed, but I\u2019m a little bit messed up these days. It\u2019s hard for me to trust people. That\u2019s not going to change anytime soon.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

He screwed up his face at me. \u201cWha\u2014\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m just trying to be practical.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWell, you\u2019re being ridiculous. None of this makes sense.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIt does to me.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Again, he said nothing.<\/span><\/p>\n

In fact, he said nothing for so long that I finally looked him in the eye. The anger had left him, replaced by an emotion I didn\u2019t recognize. Worst of all, he still smelled like summer. A little sweat and the open night air, everything I loved. Liked. I meant liked.<\/span><\/p>\n
