Emrys has been broken since the attack that left her and Sutton with wounds both physical and mental.\u00a0 Emrys is determine to fix things.\u00a0 To do that she needs Sutton.\u00a0 Sutton just wants to forget everything he couldn’t do for Emrys.\u00a0 In his attempt to forget he nearly loses everything.\u00a0 As Emrys and Sutton find they need each other to help them cope, their roads still have some bumps ahead.\u00a0 Can they survive what is to come or will they lose everything in the process?<\/p>\n

Ever since I read Retreat with Cy and Leo, I have been craving the next in this wonderfully written series by Jay Crownover.\u00a0 Jay has a great talent for writing wounded heros.\u00a0 Em and Sutton are as wounded as they come.\u00a0 But their journey to get better is filled with sexy times and emotionally potent moments.\u00a0 This series makes me want to go into the woods and find a sexy cowboy.\u00a0 Em and Sutton’s journey is a story that will suck you in and won’t let go until you find out if they get their HEA.\u00a0 I loved seeing the family through their eyes.\u00a0 Not to mention Sutton’s incredibly adorable daughter Daye.\u00a0 She is probably one of the sweetest characters in this series.\u00a0 When reading this be prepared for suspense, sexy times and sweet words from wounded heroes (not just Sutton).\u00a0 If you have yet to pick up a Jay Crownover book you need this one.\u00a0 I like to start from the beginning.\u00a0 So, start with Retreat but I guarantee you will jump right into Shelter.\u00a0 I can’t wait to get my hands on Lane’s book.\u00a0 The end of January can’t come quick enough.<\/p>\n

I\u2019d been fooled once by the promise of quiet nights and serene days in the sunshine. I believed the brochure when it said I could leave my worries at home and escape to a simpler, quieter kind of life. I let myself be lured in by the picturesque landscape and stunning mountains. I foolishly fell prey to the temptation of leaving my current set of troubles behind in San Francisco while I hid away in the middle-of-nowhere Wyoming.<\/p>\n

I now knew firsthand the glossy brochure that brought me to Wyoming the first time was nothing more than a bunch of pretty, packaged lies. I knew the bar brawl erupting in front of me was hardly the worst thing that could happen here. In fact, the level of bloodshed and violence was child\u2019s play compared to what I\u2019d witnessed the last time I\u2019d stepped foot in this small, quaint town. Well, I hadn\u2019t really been in Sheridan last time I was here. I\u2019d spent most of my time in the backwoods that surrounded the Warner brothers\u2019 ranch, which was still a good forty-five minutes outside of this tiny town. The ranch was where I was currently trying to get to so I could see my best friend.<\/p>\n

When I left Wyoming, I told myself I would never come back.<\/p>\n

Ever.<\/p>\n

I told myself there was nothing here for me but bad memories and heartache. I was a pro at lying to myself, at telling myself exactly what I needed to hear to justify my actions. I could convince myself of anything, like it was okay that my last boyfriend stole my grandmother\u2019s silver when I kicked him out because he needed it more than I did. I had no problem believing that pulling Leo out of the city was the only way to heal her broken heart even though she didn\u2019t want to go. It was easier to distract her than it was to watch her wallow. I persuaded myself into believing what I needed to heal was space and solitude. I held onto that until time passed and I was still a mess. I was sick of my own company and of hiding from everything I was feeling. I was the one who always went out of my way to fix everyone else around me, it wasn\u2019t exactly a shock to learn I didn\u2019t have the skills to repair myself. I spent my days helping others focus on their goals, on doing better and achieving more, so I didn\u2019t have to think about the lack of any ambition of my own. I turned thirty at the end of the year and I was still trying to figure out what and who I wanted to be when I grew up. I\u2019d been aimless for a long time; the only direction in my life come from the fact I knew all the way down to my bones that I had to go back to Wyoming and face off with Sutton Warner.
