Here’s a little taste of Annie and Terrance’s love story: <\/p>\n\n\n\n

She walked softly down the hallway.  The warm light from her bedroom illuminated a figure sitting on the couch.  It was too large to be Tristan.  Terrance had his head in his hands.  She debated creeping back into her room and pretending she didn\u2019t see a thing.  But, something about the scene cried out to her. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cHey.\u201d  Her voice was soft. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Terrance didn\u2019t move.  As her eyes adjusted to the dim light she saw the bottle of alcohol on the coffee table in front of him.  A shot glass sat empty next to it.  Annie\u2019s heart pounded in her chest.  Not even a full two weeks in her home and he\u2019d already fallen off the wagon. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWhat\u2019s wrong?\u201d  She sat on the couch next to him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cEverything.\u201d  His voice was like gravel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cDid you have a drink?\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Terrance took in a stuttering breath.  He only shook his head.  Annie let out a sigh of relief. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI wanted to though.  My head is pounding and whenever things have fallen apart I\u2019ve always had the bottle.  It\u2019s been the one constant in my life.\u201d His sad, painfilled eyes met hers. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cSo, what stopped you from taking the drink?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He shrugged.  \u201cI\u2019m not entirely sure.  I was determined to dive into the bottle the minute I found it. But, the idea of you or Tristan finding me passed out or worse made me stop.  I didn\u2019t want to see that disappointed look on your face again.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWhat disappointed look?\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt\u2019s the look you get every time I act like an ass.  It\u2019s just blank.  You\u2019re actually pretty scary with that look on your face.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Annie let out a little laugh.  \u201cOh really?  Well, it doesn\u2019t usually stop you from being a jackass.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

He laughed then grimaced. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cHave you taken anything for your headache?\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cNo.  I wasn\u2019t sure if I should.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

She bit her lip then said.  \u201cLay down and put her head in my lap.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWhat?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cLay down and put your head in my lap.\u201d  She tapped her lap.  \u201cCome on.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cUh\u2026okay.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Terrance moved his big body on the couch then laid his head in her lap.  His eyes sparkled in the low light. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cClose your eyes.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

He lifted one eyebrow in question.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cJust do it.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

With one more long look, he closed his eyes. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cNow, just relax.  I do this for Tristan when he isn\u2019t feeling well.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

            Terrance\u2019s body tensed waiting for what would happen next.  Annie drew her fingertips lightly across his forehead then down his temple to the bottom of his jaw.  She felt him shudder.  Her fingertips left his jaw and continued down his throat to his exposed collarbone.  Annie repeated this while she felt him relax and his breathing evened out.  She smiled as she continued to lightly caress him coaxing out the pain and tension from his body.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

His eyes opened drowsily.  \u201cIs it supposed to make me tired?\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

She smiled at him.  \u201cThe pain made you so tense that when it is finally relieved your body shuts down.  So, in essence, yes it will make you tired.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOkay.  Can I ask you a question?\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cSure.\u201d  Her fingers had moved to his arms drawing lazy designs on the arm closest to her.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWhere is Tristan\u2019s father?\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Annie\u2019s ministrations stopped.  She was frozen in that spot.  It was a question she\u2019d dodged for years. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI don\u2019t talk about that.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Terrance\u2019s eyes opened and he stared at her.  He had an open expression on his face.  She watched as his hand came up and caressed her cheek.  Unconsciously she leaned into his caress. Her mind blanked for that moment.  No thoughts of her job.  No thoughts of Tristan.  There was nothing.  She\u2019d never experienced that in her life.  The movement of his hand stopped breaking the spell.  Her eyes opened to see Terrance was sitting up and leaning toward her.  Annie put her hand on his chest to stop him. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAre you feeling better?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Terrance nodded. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

She stared at the hand on his chest.  \u201cGood.  I\u2019m going to say goodnight.  You have PT in the morning.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cGoodnight, Annie.\u201d  His voice was soft but carried to her as she retreated to her room. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
