Happy Halloween everyone! To ring in Halloween I am hosting L.M Pruitt. She is here promoting the third book in her Jude Magdalyn series, Shades of Blood. Please give L.M Pruitt an awesome welcome. She is talking about the three kinds of men in the world. So here’s L.M Pruitt.
The Three Men in the World
Anybody ever see Heartbreakers? It’s ok if you didn’t, I’m guessing a lot of people didn’t – I have a penchant for little known or ill received movies. Anyway, at what might be considered the low point of the movie, when it looks like true love will fail, one character says to another, “There is only one man in the world.” It took me a while to figure out what she meant (hey, sometimes I’m not great at subtlety) and I’d love to agree. Except she’s wrong.
I’d say there are three men in the world. The Alpha, the Beta, and the Gamma.
When I say Alpha, I’m pretty sure everyone has an image that pops in their heads. Strong, uber masculine – the protector, the provider. Barrons from the Fever series is a perfect example, as is Eric from True Blood. You can depend on these men to step up in a time of crisis, to handle danger, and then turn around and slam you up against a wall and… well, you get the picture. There’s something about the Alpha that draws women in, probably some leftover hardwiring from pre-historic times when the strong survive. It could be an excess of testosterone, which just makes women gooey.
Or it could be the fact that Alphas tend to be super sexy.
At the other end of the spectrum, you have the Beta. Think someone like Hoyt from True Blood. For some reason, people equate Betas with being weaker, which I find funny. To me, it takes a man just as strong as an Alpha to be able to diffuse a situation with words instead of fists. Lord knows if we went around beating the crap out of everyone instead of being diplomatic once in a while UN beatings would be more interesting even if nothing got accomplished. The Beta will be more likely to make you laugh then drive you crazy with sheer stubbornness. When they kiss you the first time, they won’t try and devour you – they’ll worm their way through your defenses until you give in, until you want them as desperately as they want you.
A Beta can be a very good thing to experience.
And somewhere in the middle, you have the Gamma male. Some have defined the Gamma as a self-hating, effeminate, waste of space individual. I’d like to beat them in their heads with a little of that Alpha violence. When I think of a Gamma male, I think of someone with a mixture of Alpha and Beta traits. Instead of being comprised of extremes, the Gamma male is harmonious. They may be more likely to use diplomacy to get what they want, but they have no problem pulling you in a darkened room and using the door as a bed. They’ll hold you while you cry and then try and put their fist through the person or thing that made you cry.
Given a choice, which depending on your views of Fate and destiny one may or may not have, I’d choose a Gamma. The Alpha would drive me to commit homicide. The Beta would make me feel like a bitch. A Gamma can, and would, go toe to toe with me –and then convince me to have amazing make-up sex.
What kind of man do you choose?
Book 3
If it’s not one thing, it’s another.
Felipe, one of New Orleans’s most infamous—and crazy–vampires is back in town. And to say he’s unhappy is an understatement.
Duprees and Williams have to track down Felipe, fast, before he claims any more victims. If that means making a deal with the Devil–otherwise known as St. Germaine–and using an untrained dhampir, so be it.
If that wasn’t enough, I’ve also got rebellious teenagers, feuding couples, and a suddenly full social calendar.
The more things change….
Review:
Shades of Blood is the third book in L.M Pruitt’s Jude Magdalyn series. I have totally fallen in love with this series and this book is no exception. In Shades of Blood, we finally get some answers that have been perpetuated through the series, but like any good writer of a series she still left us with a whole lot of questions. I still love the love triangle of Williams, Jude and Theo. Even though by the end of the book it is kinda resolved, but I think like the Twilight love triangle it will always be there. The other big love issue of Rian and Elizabeth finally gets resolved. With a big FINALLY from both me and the characters in the book. 🙂
The characters aren’t the only great thing about this series. The stories and the new challenges that come Jude’s way are very interconnected and not even close to being resolved. This helps to really propel the stories. When you throw in the twins and the comical style of Judes leadership, personality and way of dealing with people it makes the story go so fast that before you know it you are at the end saying to yourself “When is the next one coming out”. I really was heartbroken with some of the different twists that have begun to take place and how the young Celia who is already old for her age is having an almost torturous time right now. Overall, I loved this book just like the two before and would recommend you start reading this series immediately. L.M Pruitt has outdone herself with this one and I cannot wait for the next in Jude’s series.
I’d like to thank L.M Pruitt for stopping by today and Bewitching Book Tours for allowing me to host this stop.
