Writing The Star Child
Hi everyone! A special thanks to my host for having me as a guest today!
For my post today, I thought I’d pull together some common questions that I’ve been asked about the book. At the end of the post, please feel free to add some of yours to the list.
What was your favorite part to write in The Star Child?
The chapter in which Kellen dreams about where his mother had been held prisoner… It’s such a depature from the sort of thing that I would read myself, so I still can’t believe that I wrote that piece. There’s just a mood to that part of the story; I really enjoyed working with that piece.
Do you ever experience writer’s block?
Not often. I experience writer laziness more. I’m also a mother of two, so my writing time is at five o’clock in the morning. I can’t tell you how many times that I’ve lain in bed and just thought “Can’t I skip writing today?”. Usually, if I don’t want to work on one section I move on to another and come back to it.
Is anything in your book based on real life experiences or purely all imagination?
It’s almost all imagination. I think the only exception is the descriptions about Ireland and the various places there. My husband and I were in Ireland in 2006 and really took to the country. All of the sites described from the UK and Ireland were places that I personally visited. The exception is the place in Scotland, which I used Google Earth for. Oh, and sadly, I have no been to Faerie.
How did you come up with the title?
It was the first idea that I had for the book. I looked out the window and thought “Star Child”. I knew immediately that it couldn’t have any other name.
What project are you working on now?
Book two in The Star Child trilogy,The Fallen Stars.

About the Author
Stephanie Keyes holds an undergraduate degree in Management Information Systems as well as a Master’s in Education. A seasoned, facilitator, Mrs. Keyes worked in Training and Development for an international telecommunications corporation for twelve years; spending the first eight years of her career as a Software Trainer and Technical Writer and the last four working in Human Resources and Employee Development.
In May of 2012, Mrs. Keyes left the corporate world to focus on her family and her writing full-time. She also operates a freelance graphic and instructional design business, Sycamore Road Design.
Inkspell Publishing will release her first novel, The Star Child, on September 21, 2012. She is now currently at work on the second book in The Star Child Trilogy, The Fallen Stars.
Keyes lives in Pennsylvania with her husband, two children, and Riley the dog.
