I want to welcome M.L Guida here today. She is here promoting her book Betrayal. A very sexy and angelic paranormal romance. Be sure to check out my review after my interview.
Thank you for stopping by today.
Can you tell us a little about Betrayal?
Betrayal, the Angels of Death, is about a woman, Heather Bowen, desperate to prove his sister’s innocence and an angel of death, Scythe Angel, trying to save his fallen brother’s soul. Only by working together can they save their siblings.
I know as an author your characters are like children, but do you have a favorite or least favorite character?
I love each of my characters, even the villains. I understand them and want to make them as complex as possible. In Betrayal, Blade, Scythe’s brother, is torn and he takes out his angel on everyone. He wants everybody to hurt, because he hurts. His anger leads him down the wrong path and at odds with Michael the Archangel. I liked writing about Blade, because I understood him, but this didn’t justify his violent behavior. He will get a chance to redeem himself in the next book, which goes deeper into his story.
Are any of your characters based on people you know or even yourself?
My characters have personality traits of people I know, but they are all fictional.
What has inspired you to write Urban Fantasy/Paranormal Romance?
I have always liked the supernatural. When I was a little girl, I used to watch Dark Shadows (not with Johnny Depp!) and read Alfred Hitchcock and the Three Investigators. How many have you heard those books? I did read some Nancy Drew, but those books did not hold my attention. I fell in love with Tolkein and read the Lord of the Rings book almost every year.
Now, I am addicted to the reality ghost shows: Ghost Hunters, A Haunting, Ghost Adventures and Paranormal State. I’m excited because A Haunting is saying they will have no epos ides this October.
Do you have any authors you read that have inspired your writing?
Yes, there are several authors who have inspired my writing: Stephen King, Sherrilyn Kenyon, J.K. Rowling and Marsha Canham. Their character development has tied me to their stories and I have tried to immolate their writing.
Ok…now I am gonna ask you just a couple fun/silly questions. Do you have any guilty pleasures?
Watching those paranormal reality shows are my guilty pleasures. Oh, and I still love Kraft Macaroni and Cheese. I know! I know!
Can you share with me three things that not many people know about you?
- I have a loss of hearing in my left ear due to my infected tonsils.
- I started writing stories when I was fourteen, because S.E. Hinton was my idol.
- I’ve always wanted to travel to Africa to see the lions after watching the movie, Born Free.
What is your ultimate dream as a writer?
To be able to make enough money to quit my job and write full time. Most writers have a “day job” and must write during their spare time.
If your book was ever made into a movie do you have any actors in mind that would play your characters?
When I think of Michael the Archangel, I would want someone to play him with an edge. Johnny Depp would be great as Balthasar, the demon. I can imagine how he would dress. Chris Hemsworth would definitely be Scythe.
Finally, Do you have any unusual rituals that you must do while writing?
I write best when I am watching paranormal shows. They put me into the movie, especially A Haunting.
Thank you again for stopping by and I really look forward to reading your next book.
Review:
Betrayal was an excellent read. The characters and love story drew me in and made me wish I was an “angel-mate.” I loved Scythe, Blade, Rafael, Michael and Heather. I especially loved that Michael was a bit of the bad angel. It totally makes sense, but it hasn’t always been portrayed that way. Scythe and Heather’s love story is very quick, but you get the feeling that with a bond that the two of them had they were meant to be together. For a paranormal romance, you don’t really expect all of the deep emotions that this book gives you. The longing for forgiveness and sadness of Heather’s childhood really burrow deep into the mind of the reader. I had tears when she is confronting her “demons”. M.L Guida truly captured her characters essence and the world around them. I hope her next book will be out soon and I really hope it will be about Blade (*begging*). I can really see this becoming a popular series. Plus, who wants to pass up hot angels and a chance to be with them forever. Not me that’s for sure (fanning herself). I very much recommend this book especially to fans of J.R Ward’s BDB series and Nalini Singh’s Guild Hunter Series. I look forward to reading many more books by M.L Guida.
