Lost Souls Blog Tour

Posted on October 11, 2012 by Jackie Paxson

Today I am welcoming Laurel O’Donnell.  She is the author of the Lost Souls Series.  These are two Urban Fantasy novellas that could be turned into full-fledged books.  I am reviewing both Resurrection and Imperfection.

Resurrection

The first episode in the new urban fantasy series: Lost Souls. Christian Thompson is killed but refuses to pass into the afterlife because of his need to shelter his daughter from her cruel mother. He soon discovers there are others like him, other spirits trapped between the world of the living and the dead. He joins the Lost Souls in their struggle against a dark evil that threatens them all.

Review:

I don’t usually read too many novellas.  I always fear that with a novella I don’t get everything a novel can give me.  But, I am so glad I read this one.  Laurel O’Donnell draws you in with the novellas first breath.  I was so taken in by the character of Christian I was so mad when he dies.  Don’t worry that is not a spoiler.  Her writing drew me in and it was hard to put it down.  I enjoyed the characters and the premise of the stories of the Lost Souls.  I did find it sad that Souls only have one chance for Heaven but I am hoping maybe they will find a loop-hole in Episodes to come.  Although just a short story in what will have the potential for many more stories to come,  I have found myself drawn into this series and can not wait for the next episode.

Imperfection

Sam and her brother Ben, along with their new friend Christian, have just defied the leader of the Lost Souls. Outcast from their former group, the three of them battle the dark forces of the Changed on their own. With the help of their old friend, Eugene, they investigate the mysterious disappearance of one of their Lost Soul brethren. As the investigation deepens, they come to the chilling realization that their nemesis, Scala, has escaped his centuries-old prison with revenge on his twisted mind. A demonic possession leads to grave consequences and the Lost Souls must make a difficult choice between life and death for an innocent victim.

Review:

In the follow-up episode to Resurrection, Laurel O’Donnell continues to grow her world of the Lost Souls.  We begin to learn more on the background of Sam and Ben.  We also meet Sam’s former husband and technology friendly soul, Eugene.  The possibilities of this world are abundant.  The questions that we (the reader) and Christian have are slowly being answered along with more questions being asked.  I did find that with this novella although it was longer than the previous one the story seemed to be a bit thinner.  It seemed like the outside information was more important than the main story.  The main story seemed to come in spurts.  I hope we get to see more Eugene.  I liked his character a lot.  It was definitely a good addition to the cast of characters.  Overall it was another great read with definitely more information being revealed to propel the story and world along. I can’t wait for the next episode.

I’d like to thank Laurel O’Donnell for stopping today and allowing me to review her two wonderful novellas.  I would also like to thank ABG Reads Book tours for giving me this stop.  I look forward to reading another book by Laurel O’Donnell, Angel’s Assassin, and hosting another stop in November.  For additional information about Resurrection and Imperfection you can go to Barnes and Noble, Amazon or any other book retailer.
