Fresh Face Friday: Sidewalk Flower by Carlene Love Flores

Posted on April 26, 2013 by Jackie Paxson

WooHoo!  Happy Friday Everyone!  Today I am pleased to feature Carlene Love Flores and her book, Sidewalk Flower.  This was a wonderfully romantic and emotional read.  It was hard to put down and all I wanted was more Lucky, Jaxon and Trista.  Be sure to see all of my review after the book blurb.

Trista, a jaded young woman, sets out on an intense road trip home to deal with her past when she is asked to allow a relative stranger to tag along.

But, she’s seen too many good guys succumb to the harsh realities of her supposed privileged life in the music business and intends on keeping her distance.

When she picks up Lucky, the southern gentleman cousin of her selfish best friend, she has absolutely no idea of how to accept a perfectly good person with good intentions.

Review:

Sidewalk Flower was a fantastic find.  It begins in Tennessee where we meet Trista.  Trista must travel across the country back home to California.  But, she is joined by her best friend’s cousin, Lucky.  He is there to hitch a ride and offer assistance if needed.  Almost immediately after meeting Trista and Lucky have electric chemistry.  The trip and the secrets revealed bring them closer as they approach California.  But, as with all great love stories there are obstacles.  In this story the obstacles are both Trista previous experiences and Trista’s opinion of herself.  Incidents in California tear them apart to a point where you don’t know if they will get their happily ever after.  Even when the chips are stacked against them,  and sometimes you really just want to take both characters and lock them in a room and tell them to figure things out, you will continue to hope for them to make it.  You will be drawn into the emotion and difficult situations that Trista, Lucky and Jaxon are thrown into.  But, through it all you will be continually routing, hoping and guessing whether Trista and Lucky will find their way back to one another.

This book was a great contemporary romance.  You fall for all the characters you meet, except Vangie!  The story told from Trista, Lucky and Jaxon’s points of view flows so well that you don’t feel like your missing anything.  The story is told so completely that you feel satisfied even when the story throws you for a loop.  I loved the back drop of rock star lifestyle.  I really enjoyed this story and became very attached to the characters.  I wanted more with each turn of the page and Carlene Love Flores definitely provided.  If you like contemporary romance with a little bit of rock and roll with a little bit country then you will fall for Sidewalk Flower.

Carlene Love Flores is a big fan of the stars (especially Orion), honest music (especially Depeche Mode), and her traveling family (no favorites there-she loves them all).  These things have always inspired her to think up stories and continue to do so.  Carlene feels honored to be a member of Romance Writers of America (RWA), Washington DC Romance Writers (WRWDC), and The Waterworld Mermaids.  She currently lives in the D.C. area where she can often be found listening to live music and looking up at the sky on clear nights.  If she could touch someone’s heart with her writing the way others have done for her, she’d say truly there never lived a luckier girl.  😉
