Review: The Last Execution by Jerrie Alexander

Posted on July 16, 2013 by Jackie Paxson

Today I am reviewing another great book by Jerrie Alexander.  If you haven’t read her yet you really need to pick up either The Green-Eyed Doll or The Last Execution.  She does a wonderful job of blending both Romance and Suspense.  Be sure to read the rest of my review of The Last Execution after the book blurb.  If you want to read about her first book The Green-Eyed Doll you can click here to read it.

17725563Book Blurb:

To survive, she must put the past behind her. To love, she must learn to trust.

Homicide detective Leigh McBride’s first assignment with the FBI brings her face-to-face with a past she’s tried hard to forget. And when her temporary partner, a cynical ex-marine, lights a fire in her she thought long-extinguished, her darkest secret is threatened.

Scarred both physically and emotionally, Special Agent J. T. Noble is a man of few words. He prefers to keep people at a distance–until he meets Leigh. He’s attracted to her strength and drawn in by her secrecy. But in their line of work, secrets can be deadly.

When the killer they are hunting aims his vigilante justice at Leigh’s past assailant, the fine line between right and wrong blurs. To heal the past–and find their future together–Leigh and J. T. must learn that only through trust and forgiveness can love grow.

Review:

As most of you know I don’t normally read and review too many suspense novels.  I’ve never been a person into the John Grisham and Dan Brown kinda suspense/ thriller books.  But, when Jerrie asked me to review another of her books I couldn’t pass it up.  I’m so glad I didn’t.  The Last Execution takes us on a wild ride through Atlanta chasing a vigilante sniper. We soon learn that it’s not just the sniper we have to worry about. We must also face Leigh’s ex-boyfriend/rapist/stalker.  With two villains comes two parallel storylines held together by JT and Leigh.  For most writers this would be a very tricky task to pull off.  Not only does Jerrie give us the view points of Leigh and JT but she also puts us in the minds of the vigilante and the rapist out for revenge.  Reading this review you may be thinking this could get to be a complicated read.   Don’t doubt there were times I had a take a small breather and recap for myself who was who and what they were doing.   But that is to be expected in such a complex story. It wasn’t just the suspense that was well-managed but the love story was built-in very genuinely and believably.  It would have been very easy for the love story to have just been thrown into the mix, but Jerrie weaves it throughout the story with wonderful fireworks and climaxes (pun intended 🙂 ).  I also loved that the characters and storyline was so believable.  I felt that Leigh’s character, though weepy with JT, pulled off what a modern woman working in a law enforcement position would do and how she would act.  Also, the story of the vigilante sniper I think was so real it could have been pulled from the headlines.  Overall, The Last Execution is one book you are going to want to snatch up.  Once you read it you will want to read more by Jerrie Alexander.  She is easily becoming one of my favorite suspense writers!

Author Bio:

6456327A student of creative writing in my youth, I set aside my passion when life presented me with a John Wayne husband, and two wonderful children. A career in logistics offered me the opportunity to travel to many beautiful locations in America, and I revisit them in my romantic suspense novels.

The characters went with me, talked to me, and insisted I share their dark, sexy stories with others. I writes alpha males and kick-ass women who weave their way through death and fear to emerge stronger because of, and on occasion in spite of, their love for each other. I like to torture people, make them suffer, and if they’re strong enough, they live happily ever after.

I live in Texas, love sunshine, children’s laughter, sugar (human and granulated), and researching for my heroes and heroines.

I couldn’t agree more with this review. I LOVE Jerrie Alexander books. I just picked up her novella, Someone To Watch Over Me, and it had all the hallmarks of a Jerrie Alexander novel I’ve come to love. There’s action, suspense, and a genuine love story! She’s an auto buy for me!
