Book Blurb:
Algiers, 1845. Arrogant, selfish and dangerous, Lucas Saintclair is everything Harriet Montague dislikes in a man. He is also the best guide in the whole of the Barbary States, the only man who can rescue her archaeologist father from the gang of Tuareg fighters that has kidnapped him. As Harriet embarks on a perilous journey across Algeria with Saintclair and Archibald Drake, her father’s most trusted friend, she discovers a bewitching but brutal land where nothing is what it seems. Who are these men intent on stealing her father’s ransom? What was her father hoping to find in Tuareg queen Tin Hinan’s tomb? Is Lucas Saintclair really as callous as he claims—or is he a man haunted by a past he cannot forgive? Dangerous passions engulf Harriet’s heart in the heat of the Sahara. Secrets of lost treasures, rebel fighters, and a sinister criminal brotherhood threaten her life and the life of the man she loves.
Does forever lie in the lion’s embrace?
Review:
The Lion’s Embrace begins with Harriet looking for the notorious guide Lucas Saintclair. She needs him to guide her into the Sahara through dangerous terrain. She had received word that her father was being held ransom by a ruthless tribe that is demanding a certain amount of money to return her father. At first, Saintclair refuses. He feels she will be a hindrance and won’t be able to keep up. But, when Harriet sweetens the pot Saintclair can’t help but agree to take her through the dangerous terrain, protect her from animals both wild and human. As their journey progresses so do the feelings they have for one another. For Lucas Saintclair he begins to imagine a life with Harriet in it, but feels he is unworthy due to his past and his secrets. Harriet’s feelings for Saintclair are unyielding no matter what he says and does. His actions speak louder than any words he could express. When secrets and lies abound and Harriet’s world is spun around will love be there as a comforting blanket or will she be left in the cold?
Marie Laval did a great job with this story. She showed a lot of the historical turmoil that was going on in Algeria at this time. Also, the hunt for archeological discoveries was hot during this time period. People were always looking for the bigger find. Lucas and Harriet’s story added a wonderful depth. It really showed how the characters grow through their experiences. The setting, the story and the characters come together is a phenomenal blend that spurs the reader on until the end. If you like a good historical novel that isn’t set in the traditional regency time period than you will love The Lion’s Embrace.
Author Bio:
I was born in France and grew up in the beautiful city of Lyon. I moved to England several years ago, and now live in the lovely Rossendale Valley in Lancashire where I am still trying to get used to the damp and cold weather. Writing was always my passion. I particularly enjoy writing historical fiction and romance. ‘Angel Heart’ is my first published novel. My second historical romance ‘The Lion’s Embrace’ was released as an ebook in February 2013 by MuseitUp Publishing.
