Sorry this post is so late today, but I figure better late than never for our first Fresh Face Friday of the year. I am spotlighting Amy Bol’s Draw of the Bane. It’s a short paranormal romance that definitely has the potential to be a wonderful series. For more of my review keep reading after the book blurb. I hope you all are having a wonderful start to the year and be sure to keep coming back to see all the wonderful books I’ll be spotlighting this year.
Book Blurb:
Wolves are born to breed. And Mila’s blood was some of the rarest and most coveted, the most arousing, regal…powerful. Yet, she lives alone; hiding in America since childhood as a refugee of a great den war, having already watched everyone she’s ever cared about die around her. She refuses to give into the urges of her wolf blood and allow herself to change, especially as she would then become a beacon to the wolf that, years ago as a child, marked her against her will. And worse, she would want to be found. Becoming the wolf could mean losing the will of her own heart. Still, she is done running and ready to take a stand.
When Landon wanders onto her property hunting the wolves responsible for his parents’ death, she allows the wounded human to recover in her home against her better judgment. They soon discover they share a common enemy, and an attraction unlike anything the strong, stubborn and powerful young blueblood has ever experienced. But when the looming battle descends upon them, they must both learn to trust each other if they want to survive.
Review:
Mila has been running since before she can remember. Hoping to avoid those coming for her she lives in a desolate area of woods. She feels safe until Landon wanders onto her property hunting wolves. Landon is wounded and Mila takes him in to heal. She plans to only allow him to stay until he is healed. This changes as her feelings toward the charming former soldier. As they get closer they realize they are about to fight the same people. When Landon discovers Mila’s secret he is at first very angry and betrayed. But, he soon realizes that Mila is different from the wolves that injured his family. Can Mila and Landon work together to defeat a foe that threatens them both and still maintain the feelings growing between them or will things fall apart and Mila’s greatest fear become reality?
I really enjoyed this first book in Amy Bol’s The Blueblood Legacies series. I really enjoyed Mila and Landon’s characters. At the beginning they both felt wooden but as the novel goes they really become real. Both characters grow as the story progresses. I loved their little love story but I wonder how their love will continue into the next book. With things we learn in the first book it makes it almost feel like their love story maybe a bit fatalistic though I personally am rooting for them. The story itself is quite unique and a different take on the werewolf mythology. I like a lot of paranormal romance and this is definitely one I can’t wait to continue. I am eagerly waiting for the next book. If you like a good werewolf story and want to start an intriguing new series then definitely get your hands on Draw of the Bane.
Author Bio:
I have always loved to write. My first book, a novella of short stories titled “Complements of a Dying Man” about losing my young husband to cancer, was a test to learn how to upload my work into Amazon. I was touched by the feedback and positive reviews which describe it as both humorous and heartfelt.
But my real love is writing adult, paranormal romance. My first novel in The Blueblood Legacies series, Draw of the Bane, is out now. I’m currently writing the sequel, Rise of the Red Wolf.
I live with one hot fiancée and two stubborn little girls who take after their mother (I know, pray for the man of the house). I have a serious addiction to coffee & diet coke, which I have no plans to stop, eat chocolate like they’re going to quit making it, and treat April Fools Day as if it were a serious holiday, because, it is. You’ve been warned.
