Coffee and a Review: The Captain and the Countess by Rosemary Morris

Posted on June 30, 2014 by Jackie Paxson

I know its late for my review today, but here is for those who like to relax at night with a cup of coffee.  So, while you are relaxing tonight here is a book you are going to want to settle down with.  The Captain and the Countess by Rosemary Morris is a wonderful regency romance.  This has a great mystery along with the steaminess of a regency romance.  For my full review keep reading after the book blurb.

21790832Book Blurb:

Why does heart-rending pain lurk in the back of the wealthy Countess of Sinclair’s eyes?
Captain Howard’s life changes forever from the moment he meets Kate, the intriguing Countess, and resolves to banish her pain.
Although the air sizzles when widowed Kate, victim of an abusive marriage, meets Edward Howard, a captain in Queen Anne’s navy, she has no intention of ever marrying again.
However, when Kate becomes better acquainted with the Captain she realises he is the only man who understands her grief and can help her to untangle her past.

Review:

When Captain Howard first lays eyes on Countess Sinclair he is completely taken aback by her.  But as he gets to know her he sees the many facets that the widow hides.  It is through her eyes that Captain Howard sees the truth that the Countess is hiding.  As the Countess Sinclair and Captain Howard get closer their feelings toward each other change and a trust between the two becomes very important.  Important for the Countess needs help to find what she has lost and important for Captain Howard because he sees more for him and the countess then just friendship.  Though the Countess is beginning to trust the Captain she has a long way to go before she trusts a man enough to possibly marry him.  Will Captain Howard be able to help the Countess find her hearts desire?  Will the Countess let the Captain close enough to break the walls that she has built around her heart?
This was a really great read.  I like a good regency romance but when you add in some intrigues and a heroine that doesn’t just fall on her back for the handsome hero I am hooked.  This story will draw you in and take you through the streets of Drury lane and all the way out into the Chelsea country side.  You will see the characters develop and change both their attitudes and thoughts through the actions of the story.  I fell for both Captain Howard and Countess Sinclair.  They were each others match in every way.  Overall, you will be enchanted by both the story and the characters.  This is definitely a book worth picking up and laying on the beach or by the pool.
