Today I am reviewing a book that if you haven’t picked it up you will want to. Reflection Pond by Kacey Vanderkarr is a fantastic addition to the Young Adult genre. This is the first book in this series and I cannot wait for the next one. The story is unique and its characters are memorable. For my full review be sure to keep reading after the book blurb.
Book Blurb:
Sometimes you find home, sometimes it comes looking for you.
Callie knows a lot more about pain than she does about family. She’s never belonged, at least, not until she falls through a portal into her true home. The beautiful faerie city of Eirensae doesn’t come free. Callie must find her amulet and bind herself to the city, and most importantly, avoid the Fallen fae who seek her life. Seems like a small price to pay for the family she’s always wanted.
Then she meets cynical and gorgeous Rowan, who reads the darkness of her past in her eyes. He becomes Callie’s part-time protector and full-time pain in the ass. He has secrets of his own for Callie to unravel. What they don’t know is that the future of Eirensae lies with them, and the once peaceful city is about to become a battleground for power.
Review:
When we first meet Callie she is running from her home and boyfriend. She is running for reasons she doesn’t understand but all she knows is that she is not at home in her foster home and she doesn’t love her boyfriend. Unfortunately, her run is cut short when she is hit by a motorcycle and thrown into the reflection pond. Callie fully expects to see the white light as she dies in the pond. Only that isn’t what happens at all. Callie keeps falling until her back his stone and she looks above her to see the bottom of the reflection pond. Here is where she first meets Ash and Rowan.
When Ash and Rowan come upon Callie in the antechamber they don’t know what to think. They only know to understand they must take her to the leader of their city. Rowan, the cynic, doesn’t believe a word Callie says no matter how beautiful she is. Soon Callie comes to understand that she is part of this world. Though Rowan and Callie go together like oil and water something fundamental draws them to one another. Its only through death threats and constant challenges does Callie see the real Eirensae for what it is and understands that with her entrance into this world changes all those she comes in contact with especially Rowan. As things get dire, Rowan and Callie must figure a way to survive and deal with the feelings they have for one another.
This was a fantastic story. I loved every minute. This story draws you in and won’t let go. Kacey Vanderkarr does wonders with this first book in her new series. The world of the fae is well explained and drawn out for the reader. You are their living with the fae. The characters of Callie and Rowan are fantastic. They grown and as they grow add fundamentals to the overall story that weren’t there to start. But, it isn’t just Callie and Rowan. The whole cast of characters is uniquely special to this story. I truly can’t wait for the next in the series. I will be waiting oh not so patiently waiting til that day comes.
