Book Blurb:
For more than a year, Tanner West has tried to shake his feelings for his long time best friend, Paisley Bronson. She was the perfect girl to fit the lyrics in all his favorite songs – the girl he had always wanted. When she fell in love with another man before Tanner had the chance to tell her how he felt, he was left with no resolve to find love again. Burying himself in school and easy girls has become his new lifestyle, but when Kellee Brooks shows up at his favorite bar, he begins to think there may be another verse to his song, after all.
Kellee Brooks moved to New York City for one thing: escape. Growing up in a small town where her entire life was planned out for her, she’s desperate to break free and find herself without following the same path as her mom. Kellee thought working at the local dive bar would mean more money for school, but when she meets the smoldering, scarred honey eyes of Tanner West, she finds there’s much more hiding in the smoky building than just a few tips.
With Paisley still haunting Tanner and Kellee vowing to save anyone the trouble of loving her, will the pain and fear keep them apart – or will they find a way to rewrite their song together?
Break free with this heartbreaking story of letting go and letting love in.
Review:
Tanner’s perfect girl has always been his best friend, Paisley. But, when Paisley falls for another he is devastated. This is how we meet Tanner. He is drowning his sorrow after a year at a bar he frequents when he isn’t a resident doctor. It is here that he meets the spunky new bartender, Kellee. She immediately intrigues him when she isn’t as easy as all other girls that normally fall at his feet. But after Kellee and Tanner run into each other at an underground concert they realize that both of them have a passion for underground music. With this connection the two of them begin dating and grow even closer. Unfortunately, Paisley is never too far from Tanner’s mind. Can Tanner let go of Paisley to find something real with Kellee or will Tanner prefer to live in his regret and sorrow forever?
I loved Tanner and Kellee. I think these were two of the best characters I’ve read in a while. They were fun and their banter was entertaining and real. I also really liked that the two of them both had to work through their own issues when it came to relationships. This brought a level of realism to the story. I do have to say though there were times when I just wanted to shake Tanner and tell him to grow a pair and let Paisley go. It was rough at times with his obsession with her. Kellee’s character was definitely the most real and made the story. I think if she was different I wouldn’t have liked this story. This only works because of how her character is written. Overall, I think this is a great little love story. I have not read the first book called Tag Chaser, but after reading this I know I want to. Also, you don’t have to read Tag Chaser to get into this book. Kandi Steiner does a great job tying the two stories together for anyone who hasn’t read the first book. I can say for sure I can’t wait for the next book from Kandi Steiner.
