Good Morning! I hope all of you have had a great week so far. It’s a few days late but for Halloween my grand plan was to review the final book in Gena Showalter’s White Rabbit Chronicles, The Queen of Zombie Hearts. This is the final book in her trilogy. It’s a great ending to what has been a great young adult trilogy. I couldn’t have asked for more with her wrapping up this series. For my full review be sure to keep reading after the book blurb.
Book Blurb:
I have a plan.
We’ll either destroy them for good, or they’ll destroy us.
Either way, only one of us is walking away.
In the stunning conclusion to the wildly popular White Rabbit Chronicles, Alice “Ali” Bell thinks the worst is behind her. She’s ready to take the next step with boyfriend Cole Holland, the leader of the zombie slayers…until Anima Industries, the agency controlling the zombies, launches a sneak attack, killing four of her friends. It’s then she realizes that humans can be more dangerous than monsters…and the worst has only begun.
As the surviving slayers prepare for war, Ali discovers she, too, can control the zombies…and she isn’t the girl she thought she was. She’s connected to the woman responsible for killing—and turning—Cole’s mother. How can their relationship endure? As secrets come to light, and more slayers are taken or killed, Ali will fight harder than ever to bring down Anima—even sacrificing her own life for those she loves.
Review:
The Queen of Zombie Hearts is the final story of Ali, Cole and their zombie slayer friends. This is the most action packed, emotion filled portion of this trilogy. Ali and Cole are still fighting Anima Industry but everything they know will soon be turned upside down when they lose 4 friends in a night of killing by not zombies but humans. They feel unprepared and now want revenge and to take down Anima no matter what. But, as always, Ali is still developing more abilities and learns some very devastating news about her past. This threatens to tear her and Cole apart. With Anima breathing down their necks, Ali, Cole and the others must find a way to protect those they love and survive the impending attacks. Sadly, their losses are not done and when the smoke clears hearts will be broken and loves will be lost.
This was probably the best out of the three stories in this trilogy. As always I love Ali, Cole, Kat and Frosty. They are some of the best characters I have ever read. They have grown through their stories and I felt everything they felt. Though this is a young adult story there is so much adult content just without things getting graphic. I truly couldn’t have asked for a better ending to this trilogy. Actually I could have done without one or two of the characters that got killed off but no story is perfect. I won’t spoil it by giving details but I felt their deaths way after I finished the book. Gena Showalter has done such a wonderful job with this trilogy I can’t say enough. I think it has been clever, fun, action packed and emotion filled. The Queen of Zombie Hearts is her crown jewel in this trilogy and you will not be disappointed. You may end up a bit heart-broken and sad at times but as Cole says that’s reality.
