Happy Tuesday! I know I have been absent for a bit but watch out! I am coming back to you guys full force. My first of many reviews is Beautiful Redemption by Jamie McGuire. This is the second book in her Maddox Brother’s spinoff series. This has everything you want in a Jamie McGuire novel. You have a hot guy with issues and a tough chick who won’t take his crap. It’s wonderful. For my full review keep reading after the book blurb. Be sure to come back through out the week to see all the great books I’ve read lately.
Book Blurb:
No-nonsense Liis Lindy is an agent of the FBI. Deciding she is married only to her job, she breaks off her engagement and transfers from Chicago to the field office in San Diego. She loves her desk. She is committed to her laptop. She dreams of promotions and shaking hands with the director after cracking an impossible case.
Special Agent in Charge Thomas Maddox is arrogant, unforgiving, and ruthless. He is tasked with putting away some of the world’s toughest criminals, and he is one of the best the Bureau has to offer. Though, as many lives as he’s saved, there is one that is beyond his reach. Younger brother Travis is faced with prison time for his involvement in a basement fire that killed dozens of college students, and the media want a conviction. Travis’s only savior is his unusual tie to the mob. In a deal that will spare his brother, Thomas has agreed to recruit Travis into the FBI.
Liis is stubborn, defiant, and yet somehow softens Thomas’s rough edges, making her the perfect agent to accompany him to the ceremony. Posing as a couple, they must travel to Travis & Abby’s beach vow renewal and give him the news, but when the pretending ends, she finds herself wondering if they were pretending at all.
Review:
Liis Lindy is new to San Diego. She just moved to the FBI office there and is happy to start anew and away from her former flame. On her first night there she hooks up with this incredibly handsome guy. Knowing she doesn’t want to be in a relationship she chalks this encounter up to a one night stand. That is until she realizes her one night stand is her boss with the bad reputation, Thomas Maddox. Though Thomas has a rough reputation that doesn’t stop Liis from standing up to him regarding her work and her reputation. This is just the type of person Thomas has wanted as a supervisor under him. Unfortunately, as they work together and push each others buttons and boundaries they realize that there is much more to them then a one night stand. But with this realization comes all the walls that they both have. Thomas still loves another and Liis is afraid to let anyone in. Can these two stubborn and passionate people break down their barriers or will love elude even the most clever Special Agent?
Thomas Maddox has always been the elusive Maddox brother. We never really knew anything about him and now we finally understand why. With not knowing much about him I came into this book not knowing what to get. He is definitely the typical Maddox just without the cursing and with a lot more secrets. Liis is the perfect woman for him. She fits in with a lot of the other Maddox women and yet makes herself unique because of the shared secrets her and Thomas must share. I adored their love story. It was also surprisingly fun. My favorite of the Maddox brothers is Trent but I found myself falling for Thomas in a whole different way. I loved how Jamie McGuire ties and overlaps timelines of her books. This really gives the book a familial feel even if you haven’t read the one prior. Overall, this was a book I read in one day and that is truly how I read all of her books. This is definitely another win and I can’t wait to pick up Beautiful Sacrifice next.
