Review: Harvest Moon (A New World #1) by Tonya Coffey

Posted on March 31, 2016 by Jackie Paxson

Today I am sharing with you the first day of a two day event.  I am featuring A New World series today and tomorrow.  Harvest Moon, the first in the series, is a wonderful beginning to an expansive series that has a lot of potential.  For my full review keep reading after the book blurb.  Be sure to stop back tomorrow for the second day in our A New World series event.

23150610Book Blurb:

Seventeen-year-old Jessa lives in the remote mountains of Kentucky and has always found peace in the forest. Close to her eighteenth birthday, her dad buys her a book and things begin to happen. With her dreams leading her, she uncovers a world within her own with Faeries. They look and act like people she grew up with but she quickly finds she is the one who is different. She is the hidden heir to the throne and the Faeries need her to come home and save them from the Trolls.
If it wasn’t difficult enough for Jessa to move to a different world, she has to marry the man who saved her from the Trolls when all she wants to do is run to his best friend, Micha. With so much to worry about, how can she keep the Faery realm from falling into the hands of the evil Trolls and the Ancients?

Review:

Jessa has had the typical life of a teenager.  The only difference are the dreams that have been plaguing her.  After a really trying dream, Jessa runs into the forest along a trail she usues regularly.  This run she came across a wounded wolf.  Only the wolf isn’t a wolf and the handsome man that saves her is more than he seems.  Her savior soon reveals himself as her guardian and she is more than she has ever known.  As this new world opens to her she learns about her real parents, her hidden powers and her husband to be, Roderick.  Like everything she is learning, she comes to realize that though things are planned doesn’t mean they are correct.  But, when the evil Trolls attack will Jessa be able to accept who she is to save her people or will she let the enemies conquer her new world?
I really enjoyed this start to a new fantasy series.  The characters were wonderfully created and the idea of this world being just out of sight of the real world added a level of real possibility.  The reader is put in Jessa’s shoes as she learns about her new world. But, I think some of the best storytelling is between her, Roderick and Micha.  Their relationship, though complex is written well with a natural development.  Overall, anyone who enjoys stories with faeries, trolls and kingdoms you will want to dive into this series.
