“My guardian angel is a drunk.”
Evelyn Casey’s life is at a standstill. She’s in her mid-twenties, struggling with the dating scene in San Francisco. Nothing seems to be working out, and she’s starting to think that she’ll live out her days in her crummy apartment with her overbearing roommate, Brooklyn. It’s absurd, but sometimes Evey longs for a guardian angel to show up and save the day.
And then he does. Seriously. His name is Lucian and he’s a guardian angel, been on the job for two thousand years. His sudden presence in her life is both good—he’s brilliant, witty, and warm—and bad—he’s brilliant, witty, warm, and hot as —-. But as perfect as Lucian seems, he’s got problems of his own. He’s taken up drinking and he’s brazenly inserted himself into Evey’s life, going against the greatest cosmic law ever created.
For Evey, the rules are simple: You are not allowed to hook up with your guardian angel. But sometimes fulfilling your destiny requires a leap of faith, a confrontation with God.
Yes, God as in God.
Review:
Evey’s guardian angel has problems. He is a drunk, a trouble maker and bored with watching Evey’s boring life. But, what he is hiding is that he feels things he shouldn’t for her. When Evey sees Lucian for the first time she can’t help but know he is the hottest guy she has ever seen and he is smashed. What she doesn’t expect is for him to tell her that angels are real and that he is hers. Lucian and Evey break one rule after the other. Will they get what they want even after breaking the rules? Or will heaven, God and angels break Lucian and Evey?
I loved this book! Lucian and Evey’s story is unique. Renee Carlino takes our idea of angels and poses the question: What would happen if we fall in love with our guardian angel and if we do what happens from there? Lucian and Evey’s story has you believing anything is possible. The masterfully written story weaves between Lucian and Evey’s viewpoints or an angel and human’s view points. The love between Lucian and Evey is palpable. The reader will believe their love is possible and damn the consequences even if that means going against Jesus and God. When the unbelievable happens you will really start wondering if there are consequences for a love that is as unconventional as a guardian angel and his soul. This was my first Renee Carlino book and I am hooked. Her writing is truly addictive. She is able to make you believe in love and who can experience it. Though this story does have a bit of a religious feel it isn’t a religion you have to believe in to fall for Lucian and Evey. Overall, if you are like me and haven’t met Renee Carlino, Lucian Divine is a novel you won’t forget and will be craving more of her writing.
