Happy Saturday! Today, I bring to you a new series by Jay Crownover. She spreads her writing wings into her own version of a cowboy romance. Of course, her cowboys aren’t quite cowboys. For my full review keep reading after the book blurb. Be sure to stay tuned I have some more great reviews, reveals and exclusive things coming soon.
Book Blurb:
Every once in a while, you need to get away from it all.
I was a woman on the edge, shaken and shattered after a breakup that felt like it tore my entire world apart.
My best friend, sick of watching me drown in misery and melancholy, harassed me until I agreed to go with her on a week-long wilderness retreat.
She promised days spent bonding and getting in touch with our inner bad-asses.
It was supposed to be all about the two of us roughing it and making do with the bare minimum. She assured me we were going to be pushed to our limits in ways that were unimaginable. Neither one of us could have ever guessed just how right she was.
Nowhere in the glossy brochure did it say anything about the fact I was going to have to battle the insufferable but deliciously rugged and sexy trail guide instead of the elements. The brochure also forgot to mention the part that warned when you left civilization behind, there was no place to pack your inhibitions and fears.
I was told that I would be facing a week where the only thing I should expect was the unexpected. However, no one mentioned that I was going to have to fight for my life…and my heart as soon as I ventured into the unknown.
I was a pro at hiding from my feelings but when it came time to face a real threat, one that could change everything, I learned I was more of a no surrender, no retreat kind of girl.
Retreat is a standalone novel, the first in the Getaway series which centers on the hardheaded and brokenhearted Warner brothers and the women that dare to love them.
These boys are very good at putting the wild in wilderness.
Review:
Leo needed to reset her life. Her friend knew it more than her. So after making Leo sign up to a ranch with a cowboy experience she isn’t impressed when she first meets the cowboys. Cy looks like he is more comfortable on the back of a Harley instead of a horse. When Leo says her feelings on the cowboys that don’t look like they belong on a ranch she makes a very bad impression on Cy. Cy knows that he and his brothers run one heck of a business even if he isn’t a people person. When Leo steps into his world she will change him and her forever. Will they survive the danger that lies ahead to be able to see if they have something more than just a week together?
This is another Jay Crownover masterpiece. I loved Cy and his brothers. Leo was awesome. Her no filter way of talking resounded with me personally. The diversity of these characters was magnificent. The setting was a refreshing twist from Jay Crownover’s previous books. I loved the visual of the mountains, the trails, horses and total experience of the trail ride. I really see a great future for this series. Jay Crownover does her thing with cowboys, horses and danger. If you are already a fan of Jay Crownover you will be stumbling over yourself to get your hands on this. If you haven’t read any of her stuff yet, I guarantee you will go from this to picking up any of her other books.
