Review: Taken by Surprise by Valerie Clarizio

Posted on January 20, 2017 by Jackie Paxson

TGIF!  I don’t about you guys but I am truly happy this week is over.  Its been one tough one.  So, today I get to bring to you one of my favorite indie authors.  You will have seen reviews I’ve done on her Nick Spinelli mysteries.  Today, is a great romantic suspense novel that kept me up into the wee hours of the morning so I could finish it.  For my full review keep reading following the book blurb.  Have a great weekend and relax with a good book.

29964510Book Blurb:

Everyone is shocked when Clare Ulster leaves her rich and handsome fiancé, chucks her well-to-do Milwaukee city life, and moves into her grandparents’ old homestead in the remote Upper Peninsula of Michigan. The quiet small town of Iron City is just what she needs to get her life in order and learn to stand on her own. No men needed!
Unfortunately, disaster follows her. Unable to let her go, her abusive, cheating ex- fiancé finds his way to the U.P. and sets out to make Clare’s life more of a living hell then he’d done in the past. Additionally, Clare’s alleged involvement with the Fire Chief, aka, town player, lands her in a world of trouble with his ring of female admirers, sending her on a dangerously chaotic adventure including murder and kidnapping. With Clare’s life in danger, irresistible Police Chief Jack Ricco will do whatever it takes to keep their newest resident safe.
Will Clare and Jack be able to survive the deceptively peaceful Iron City?

Review:

Clare surprises everyone including her cheating abusive fiancee by moving to her grandparents home in Upper Michigan.  Looking for a new start.  What she gets is thrown into the midst of small town drama.  She doesn’t expect seeing her best friend’s brother all grown up and very sexy.  As Clare tries to navigate her new job, town and personal life, her old life comes violently back.  Can Clare survive the obstacles to her new life or will everything be taken away forever?
I really enjoy a good romantic suspense book.  I especially like one if the hero is a very sexy cop.  This book definitely filled that role.  The chemistry between Clare and Jack almost set my kindle on fire.  It wasn’t just steamy but on Jack’s part is was very sweet and unrequited since he was a kid.  The real story though was the horrible incidents that continued to threaten Clare’s life and finding out who was responsible doing these things to her.  As the story grew so did the depth and complexities of the culprit.  This truly made things interesting.  You don’t figure out truly who is behind everything until the very end.  I love stories like that.  If you are looking for a great page turner with a sexy police chief you’d want to get arrested by, then look no further.
